Poll question: A poll for horrible nerds. What's your favorite of the Final Fantasy Games?
That is, if you're into them. I've been into them since I first played the original Final Fantasy on the NES all those years ago.
I have to say my favorite as Final Fantasy 9, with FF 12 a very close second. Both are just amazing.
Anyway, feel free to vote here. Contribute opinion if you wish. FFXI and FFIII not included.

1. I think the series peaked at 6 and 7, but I don't know which one I'd choose as my favorate.

4. I liked 6 better than 7. I thought they were both fantastic...
but 9 was adorable, and that appeals to me because I'm a very sentimental and horrible nerd.
12 was just beautiful. It looked great, the music was good, it was different, fun to play, and the main villain was a huge change from other FF villains.

7. You should! 9 is more old school style, with tons of references to previous FF's...
12 is just different. in a lot of ways. the main character in that one is more of an observer than taking a huge role in the action. makes for an interesting perspective for the player.

they released it here for the NES as III. Why? Because apparently they thought Americans would go "Hey what happened to III, IV, and V?" I had to look it up. Really, there was a point to them screwing with the numbers?

Yay for VI. I can go vote now.

One thing that SERIOUSLY annoys me about ff games is all the characters look 20 but are about 15, and the 'grizzled veterans' are the ripe old age of 35, or sometimes *gasp* 40!

I bought a Sega Genesis and the game came with it.

It sat on the shelf for about 2 months before I realized I had done all you could do with Sonic the Hedgehog.

Classic 80's style music and a compelling story.

Although I've only played VI-X.

Yes, drawing magic sucked... but it definitely had the best setting and love story. GARDEN is probably my favorite FF place to just run around in and OK... yes... I cried when they were in space in their little suits and reached out... and altogether now...

"If smile is shown then I know you are no dreeeamer..."

Cried like a baby during the final sequence too.

52. I can respect VIII. The story was really well done and you cared about the characters.
Seifer is an interesting antagonist...not really evil like all of the others, just misguided and stubborn. Also, the storyline with Laguna I found really moving, and there were a lot of moving scenes in the game. It looked great, the music was very good. The gameplay was very weak in places, and there was a lot about it that was lame or pointless, but I think it was a much stronger entry than X.

54. Not even fair.....6 beats the shit out of all the others.
Locke, Celes, Terra......what more do you need.

I think the new ones kinda suck. I hate that all the characters are so...flexible. They can ALL wield magic, and swords, etc. Yeah, one character might be SLIGHTLY better at magic, but I like specialization. It makes sense to me that the mages would be unable to wield a sword as well as a big, heave brute fighter.

In ff6, there is some flexibility, but most characters were usually really good at their specialization.

Flexibilty of characters is good if it's a one player game or has very few characters (computer rpgs), but sort of silly in these games. Plus, I hate dumb leveling up games like "licensing". It makes no sense.

64. The most infuriating aspects of FF1 were 'Ineffective' and those
fucking one-hit KO moves. Since resurrecting characters is a huge pain in the ass, losing a character to a one-hit Kill was always a slap in the face.
My favorite? A boss that almost always dies in one hit, but has a whole slew of one-hit KO moves, so if he manages to attack, he can still fuck you over even though he dies so easy.
FF1 was a bit of a dick.

The numbering for the first six got screwed up in the US because they only released 1 (NES), 4 and 6 (SNES). So in the US they got numbered as 1, 2 and 3.

72. Yeah, that's actually 4.
In fact, I think 2 was the only one that was never even translated into english. I tried to play a rom of it but couldn't read the japanese writing enough to figure out what the (*&% I was s'posed to do. :)

74. You can get I and II together as rom nowadays.
There's also I and II bundled for the PS1 or the Game Boy Advance, if you have either system.

79. Yeah, but FF2 is still really difficult and frustrating.
The difficulty curve is incredible. You'll be in one area kicking ass, and then you move to another area and the monsters are drastically tougher. Bosses will eat you alive if you go in unprepared. One, in particular, the Lamia Queen, is a dick in every way imaginable. The stat system is completely unique in the series, and can be infuriating. And you will learn to hate, hate, hate Hill Gigases.
Have fun. :hi:

89. Yeah, I know the stat system was weird in that one.
And there's a reason they didn't do it like that again. :P

77. Calcabrina...many of the villains were named after demons in Dante's inferno.
Scarmiglion (called 'Milon' in the U.S. version), Cagnazzo, Barbariccia, and Rubicante.

78. I've only ever played Final Fantasy X, so I can't judge really.
But I just wanted to add that Cloud, Vincent, and Leon are hot. You know, for cartoons.

83. I shall.
KH1 is the only game I ever finished. Which is really sad, but yeah. Well, excluding fighting games (Tekken and such), I finish those. I'm good at them too, I always kick my brother's ass.

I'll get my nerd on this weekend, play KH2 and go to see the Dark Night which have I haven't seen yet, so no spoilers!!!!!!!
