Poll question: I'm going off caffeine cold turkey - is that a good idea?
Edited on Wed Jul-30-08 11:59 AM by TrogL
The last two day's I've had waaaaay too much coffee and I think I OD'd cause last night I was dizzy and nauseous.

I decided to go without caffeine today to see if it made a difference.

I'm feeling somewhat better but can't decide whether to...

1. do it on a weekend or some time when you have a couple days to sleep through the headaches
that is about all that happens to me if I miss a day or two without my regular dosages. Well that and not getting anything done.

2. I suspect it's not a good idea (unless you particularly enjoy headaches)
I'd ease back to one cup for a while, or switch to a couple cups of tea...

Good luck!

3. Switch to tea - there' s less caffeine per cup, so you'll still have
something to hold in your hand

AND

the more tea drinkers out there, the better MY chances of getting a decent cup outside my own home!

6. I had a small cup of coffee
...one that actually is a cup rather than the litre-sized monster I normally drink from.

I feel a bit better now. I'll have another cup around 3 p.m. if I start feeling wierd again.

7. (Taking sip of coffee) Depends on how addicted you are:
I drink 3 pots per day spaced out during the day. I tried going CT one time and my cranium caved in on me (at least that is what it felt like).

12. Don't use aspirin. Use Tylenol Ultra.
Which contains a small amount of caffeine. Which means you wouldn't actually be going "cold turkey", but it's only a tiny hit of the stuff. Sometimes I take a break from coffee and tea for a week or two; the Tylenol knocks the headaches out while your body goes through withdrawal.

13. Find out when the coffee beans were grown.
Coffee Dismissal Day (CDD) is when you officially quit. However, it seems that there is a general principle that you can apply to obtain the following conclusions:

1. If some coffee was made from beans grown before CDD, then you can drink as much as you like of that coffee.

2. If some coffee was made from beans grown after CDD, then you are absolutely forbidden from drinking any of that coffee.

Sorry if that doesn't help. I hope that it was at least interesting.

14. Zoiks! I don't recommend it.
I had to wean off caffiene at one time for a medical test, and I found more success spending a couple of days doing half-decaf.
