I'm not applying through the regular channels because my guy told me who to send a resume to directly. Should I add a note saying "Sorry for not going through human resources first but, (Name withheld) told me to send a resume to you directly" Or not?

I'm worried it may look like I'm trying to blame someone else if she's irritated by it.

1. No.

Say this: "So-and-so gave me your name." That's all you need to say. Don't apologize, and don't waste his time. Just say how your resume got to him and move on. I say this as a hiring manager.

I will automatically give a resume a closer look if it comes to me from someone I respect, but I get turned off when people overexplain things. I'm busy, you know? :D (And here I am posting on DU in the middle of the day...)
