Poll question: Breaking up in the new age
Edited on Thu Jul-24-08 08:34 AM by DaveTheWave
The last way you were dumped, you dumped someone or the way you would prefer to be dumped or to dump someone.

2. Seconded.
I hear some people are getting fired by email these days. One of our last employees checked in before he was let go by "texting" our design supervisor. He never called to let anyone know he wouldn't be returning to the job.

I suppose people under a certain age are willing to do everything in their lives electronically, even something as deeply personal as a breakup.

(posting an hour after the fact thanks to timesheet hassles at work :P)

Writing a letter wasn't an option on the poll! Ahhh.

15. tsk
My father told me when he was in boot camp and the guys got their mail, you could hear clink, clink, ping, clink - the rings falling onto the ground from the Dear John letters. Now that is cruel.

My letter was an epic dramatic finale, complete with the total summation of all past transgressions as well as befouling the memories of his ancestors. I spent hours on it, making sure I countersunk every last nail in the coffin. The only thing missing was the rain beating down on the windowpanes with the occasional burst of thunder. Ooooh, it was a delicious catharsis.

BTW, we are good friends to this day. How he puts up with me is beyond my reckoning.

10. I was publically dumped.
Probably because the dumper knew I was too well brought up to make an ugly scene.

It's not what I'd do myself; there's a certain moral cowardice to that approach. But I guess it beats certified letter, which was how I was once fired.
