What is the absolute worst movie you've ever seen?
Batman and Robin. Seeing the Dark Knight makes me so sure of that. "What killed the Dinosaurs? The ICE age" and the part where Mr. Freeze is trying to get his gang of hardened criminals to sing "I'm Mr. White Christmas" from "A Year Without a Santa Claus" clinch it.

Everyone I know thinks that Nightmare Before Christmas is the absolute most bestest thing in the whole world ever. I, in contrast, think that it's yet another unremarkable turd on the steaming heap that is Tim Burton's career.

and I'd love for them to forever alter my experience with the two that I've listed. FMTSM was amusing to a degree for various reasons, but overall leaves one shaking.

Santa Claus versus the Martians is another, which although I've seen the MST3K version and laughed my ass off, still hurts (saw it as a young child and was pained even at the time!)

3. probably 'teenage cavemen'
it's this about these closeted, basically 'cave men' primitive teenagers, that find this couple that know about drugs, and sex, and eternal life, which is an alright idea, as it becomes a very traditional: 'do we try these new and exciting ways of living, even if they'll kill us? or do we go back to the old way of life and be bored? '

anyways, what made it really bad, was the filming, the acting, and well, pretty much everything else.

i think that was the worst movie i ever saw.

that and it's a wonderful life

well. anything with jimmy stewart that's probably not a hitchcock film, i have issues with.

It was made in 3-D and probably needs to be seen that way. Even in 2-D, dialogue like "To know life, Otto, you must fuck death in the gall bladder!" makes it a must-see.

124. No worries indeed!
I certainly respect your opinion - it is a really campy movie, and perilously close to awful a lot of the time. Absolutely not for every taste!

Apparently Warhol had little or nothing to do with it, despite his possessive credit. Not even the credited director, Paul Morrissey, did. Apparently it was made by Italians and kind of co-opted by the Factory crew. Why? Who knows!

But there's some unasked-for trivia on a movie you hated!

I feel better now that I know Wahhol didn't have much to do with it. Leaves me hope that someday I'll still be able to "get" Warhol, as that film put such a bad taste in my mouth, I kind of wrote him off.

113. Maybe I'm prejudiced
But the migraine that listening to those screechy characters induced took days to fade. Unfortunately, my son was way too young to drop off at the theater and pick up later, but he seemed to like it.

Speaking of dropping off kids, my son - now in his twenties - saw "Pan's Labyrinth" in a movie theater, where several parents had dropped off their offspring. He told me he felt really sorry for those kids: he was an adult and liked the movie, but it was not suitable for small children! It even gave him nightmares, and he's a horror movie fan.

20. Worst good film, or worst bad film?
The worst film I ever saw was "Yor, the Hunter of the Future." The opening scene panned out over a prehistoric landscape, complete with telephone poles. It got worse from there.

The worst film I saw that everyone seemed to like was "The Return of the King." Longest, most ridiculously pretentious nonsense I've ever seen. Reminded me of what some high school comic book geel would make if you give him a billion dollars and no film training.

Ferris Buehler comes in a close second. Might come in first if I ever watch it again. Same reasons, essentially.

36. "Armageddon"
I'm not going to say something like "Plan 9 from Outer Space" , which is considered to be the worst movie ever made...because that's so easy. "Plan 9" had a tiny budget and I think Ed Wood, Jr. had his heart in the right place.

On the other hand, there is no excuse for a piece of shit like "Armageddon". They had a huge fucking budget, a big name cast...and it still turned out to be a horrible piece of shit that I resented wasting 2+ hours of my life on. I place a lot of blame for "Armageddon" on the director. Michael Bay has no business directing movies, because he's a hack director. If you're given $100 million, #200 million to direct a movie, you don't turn out dreck. Which Michael Bay regularly turns out. "Armageddon" is especially bad.

The person I saw "Forrest Gump" with was a movie editor and critic, well versed in movies. I suffered through the whole thing and when it was over, he asked me what I thought. I hated it, but didn't want to give my opinion first, so I asked him what he thought, and he said that he thought it was a terrible movie, and I agreed. I just assumed that everyone felt the same way, but then it won the Oscar. And I fell asleep during "Zelig." ;)

60. Agreed.
I've seen plenty of movies with worse acting, direction, etc., but Forrest Gump had so much hype surrounding it, and the fact that it was considered "profound" really sealed the deal for me.

194. Some of the special effects were okay, like when he met the president,
but I cringed at other parts, like the smiley faces. It was just way overdone. Tom Hanks has done some great work, most of which I admire, but this was not one of them. I'm grateful that I'm not alone in feeling this way. I also hated "Terms of Endearment," found it totally depressing, but that one won, too...

Absolutely hated that movie... went with a bunch of friends in law school (there was this great independent movie theater - cheap tickets, one screen, old theater - saw the Madness of King George there - awesome) we all wanted to walk out, but we each thought the others liked it.

I still shudder at it. Its not a bad movie like stuff with Adam Sandler, Jim Carrey etc - those you have a certain expectation. This was just the worst for me.

When the gangster started brutalizing the kitchen boy. That movie was downright sadistic - I had no problem with the sex, but the way the camera dwelt lovingly on every act of cruelty turned my stomach. I understand it got much, much worse before the end, so I'm glad I didn't stick around.

I saw it when I was a kid with some friends of mine. It's the only movie I've ever gone to where the people coming out of the theatre begged and pleaded with us to turn around, cash in our tickets, and find something better to do with our time. Wish I'd taken their advice; what a piece-of-shit flick; what a mockery of Gore Vidal's fine novel; and what an unspeakable misuse of the aged Mae West. The only mildly amusing part was Rex Reed getting his dick cut off.....

I'm still annoyed at the so-called friends who dragged me to that disgraceful and predictable waste of film.

It demonstrates how genuinely stupid people can be, that a waste like Pulp Fiction can be considered on the same level as a true clever classic in the same year, Forrest Gump.

The original Batman (1989?) is another contender. I was squirming in my seat, wanting to leave a jammed North Lake Tahoe theater, in the first 2 minutes.

Oh yeah, how can I forget Juno? That one I did walk out of, but 20+ minutes too late. Easily the most ridiculously forced dialog of any movie I've ever seen.

187. Many people are apparently confusing "overrated" with "worst."
And a few others are just plain pretentious, because some people believe that not liking something trendy but cool -- like Pulp Fiction -- makes them even cooler. This second, smaller subset is the same crowd who switched over to chai tea when the rest of the trend-followers finally discovered that coffee was cool.

In a world in which Glitter, Ballistic: Ecks Vs. Sever, From Justin to Kelly, and Soul Plane simply exist -- not to mention the entire lineup of everything ever aired on the Lifetime Movie Network -- people, deep in their hearts, think Titanic is worse? Titanic is honestly worse than anything starring 50 Cent, Shaquille O'Neal, Brittney Spears, or Paris Hilton?

I'm a big Monty Python fan, but this one sucked. I looked at my watch every 5-10 minutes.

Honorable mention:

Caddyshack II

Alien III

The English Patient

The Postman

The first 2 for being such horrible sequels (worse than Godfather III)

The last 2 for being way too long to be that boring.

As Steve Martin said, "And by the way, you know, when you're telling these little stories? Here's a good idea - have a POINT. It makes it SO much more interesting for the listener ..."

On edit: And the Movie version of Apt Pupil by Stephen King. Stand by Me was fantastic, Shawshank Redemption was excellent. Apt Pupil was the best of the 4 stories and could have made a kick-ass movie, but the execution was just pathetic.

Out of his odious oeuvre, I'd have to single out "Unbreakable" for special derision. "Super hero comics are real", indeed. Is Shyamalan 11 years old? Because that idea is certainly the kind of thing every 11 year old thinks up. And then grows out of.
