Long story short -
Yesterday after work I went to this "warehouse" (former grocery store) to see if I could look at some furniture available for auction today and tomorrow (Saturday and Sunday). A person that's a customer of the company I work for and someone I do computer work for on the side from time to time had called in to ask me his router password and as he used to own a furniture store in that building I asked if he had any sort of cheap couch he wanted to unload CHEAP. He told me that he didn't own the store anymore, but some other guy he knew was doing auctions down there and that I could go on Friday after work to see if there was anything I was interested it.
I arrived shortly after 5, and the guy told me he was just getting ready to leave. He said I could look around if I hurried, and in the middle of conversation he got a phone call. I went to wander and came back when he was off the phone. I didn't leave until 7. We started talking - and talking and talking and talking. For whatever reason - he thinks I am Teh Awesome (TM) - and at the end asked if I wanted to come back today to help do some busy-work stuff to prepare for the auction for pretty good $$$. I declined, I just don't have the energy to do all that, really, and I have a brazillion things at home that need doing.
I ended up not going to the auction today (although there was a particular couch we discussed) because frankly, I didn't feel well and wasn't up for it.
So TONIGHT - I'm on the phone w/ GOPisEvil and the cellphone rings. It's a woman. She tells me that I met her husband yesterday, and that he really, really liked me. They are wondering if I'd be willing to help them out tomorrow because they don't have a cashier and need someone there to keep track of registered "auctionees", keep track of items they buy, and take their money. I agreed - but really only because I think they really need the help and I really enjoyed talking to the husband TOO. We just "clicked" in that way that happens when you have a really intense conversation with someone and walk away feeling that there was some sort of odd connection. But I don't really want to do it. I have a MILLION things I NEED to be doing.
Anyway - I just think it's interesting that I talked to this guy for a couple of hours and he trusts me completely with thousands of dollars and to handle all of the complexities in a competent manner. And more interesting, I don't think it's something they're asking so much because THEY need it (not that they're lying about needing someone, but that they are calling me FIRST, not someone else they already know), but I think they're doing it more because they are trying to help ME out, because frankly, we had a bit of discussion about some of the financial difficulties I'm facing in the current economy and because of recent events.
I have these "click" moments with people on a rather regular basis - and I always think it's odd. Cool, but odd.
