Why does our cat scratch the floor after drinking?

One of our cats, Thomas (aka Tommy Shoes, Tommy Four Legs and Gilligan ) is fascinated by water, often just stares into his water bowl like he's seeing the future or something. He also has a glass of water here in my home office that he drinks out of, and when he's finished, he scratches on the floor, sort of like he would do in the litter box after going. What's up with that? I've asked him, but he won't tell me.

1. Ours sometimes do that after eating, but I've never seen them doing it after drinking

They say when they do it after eating they're obeying an instinct to hide their food so predators won't smell it. Maybe your beautiful "weirdo" kitty is obeying an instinct to protect his water!

My dear departed Tinkie used to cup her paw and dip it in her bowl to drink. But she did not like people knowing she did that.

It always cracks me up, although I think there may actually be a good reason she does it; I think she's sort of testing the water to see if it's safe. Also, if she hears a glass with something sugary in it, like a soda, set down on the floor or table, she'll be over in less than ten seconds to dip her paw in it to try and drink it and, ultimately, use her paw to knock it over and spill it all over the floor!

She also will only drink out of a pitcher sitting on the side of the bathtub.

I've had two kitties who have always done weird shit like that.

I jus' love them, and they dictate to me when they get these weird moods.

Little shits! It's a good thing I love them.

And one tried to kill my a couple months ago! Little shit ass!

4. This guy is really strange

we took him in when friends of ours moved to Australia. He was in our house about a month, then went outside and didn't came back. I would put food outside, and he would eat it, and I would see him around, but he wouldn't let me near him. I usually put the food out for him when we got home from work, and if I was late, he would be outside the window yelling at me. Finally, one day (after about 3 months of this) I went outside with his food and he just casually walked up to me, said the cat equivelant of 'What's up?' and came inside, and he hasn't gone out since. He's very weird and attached to me, talks a lot. I call him Gilligan because he's my little buddy. He calls me Skipper sometimes, but since he's a British cat I had to explain it to him, because they don't have Gilligan's Island over here.

And he snores.

I keep telling him it's not possible to bury water (and why would you want to anyway?), but he never listens. He paws at the floor and the water dish before and after he drinks. Cats are so weird sometimes!

Hiding his water, I guess. Cats who have lived outside on their own are more prone to the "covering" thing.

My black kitty Jasmine says Thomas is welcome to visit her anytime and she'll share the good stuff with him--tub water. Mmmmm... :9 Yeah, she's in there every morning after family showers are done. "Dis water have a flabor." Too bad the flavor is toe jam. She's part dog, too--we have to keep the toilet lid down at all times or she'll drink out of it. I got up really early this morning to go to the bathroom, and because I was half asleep, I forgot to put the lid back down. We found telltale kitty footprints on the seat as well as INSIDE the bowl.

We just wanted normal cats...was that so much to ask...
