OMG - I just read a rumor about a "Valley of the Dolls" remake with.....
Anne Hathaway as Neely O'Hara?

:scared:

I could see Anne in the movie but wouldn't she be a better Anne Welles?

3. Yea but she's not a Neely. Neely was this petite little spitefire
whereas Anne Welles was the calm, cool New England glam girl. That's Anne Hathaway

6. Amy Winehouse!!!!!
THAT'S NEELY!!!

Who can play Helen Lawson? We need a brassy "dame" to play her.

And HELL to the NO on Jessica Simpson as Jennifer.

12. Oh, I'll plaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnt... my own treeeeeeeee.......
Damn, now that song will be stuck in my head all night.

Lauren Bacall as Helen Lawson? A bit old, but she'd tear that part to shreds.

How about an offbeat choice like Audra McDonald? Beautiful, great actress and can she sing.

I LIKE the idea of Amy Winehouse as Neely! Anne is more of an Anne Wells than Neely.

14. Amy Winehouse would never be believable as the earlier, sweeter Neely.

2. She'd be good as Neely.
But they still have to set it in 60's.

4. I'm sorry but no - she is not Neely
Edited on Tue Jun-24-08 03:31 PM by LynneSin
She doesn't have enough spunk to be Neely. Not sure who would be but I'm fearful of who they bring in for Jennifer. Why am I afraid that Jessica Simpson will show up in that role. I hope not.

Anne Hathaway is more of the glam girl New Englander - I could see her do that role!

And yeah, it would have to be the 60s unless they changed all the drugs. Today's "Valley of the Dolls" would be doing coke, meph & heroin, not 'Uppers & Downers'

19. I'm going to have to say so "NO" on Amy Winehouse
sure she's living the Neely life but answer me this

How could this even come closing to being a "Neely"

Neely had something 'pixie-like' and innocent about her. REmember when she replaced Terry King in "Hit the Sky" - they changed all the outfits to something more sweet & innocent, childlike.

Sure, this is what Neely is to look like after 10-20 years of the dolls, but you can use makeup on a person to make then look like this. I don't think there is enough makeup to make her look 'sweet & innocent'.

5. ...
Gotta get off, gonna get
Have to get off from this ride
Gotta get hold, gonna get
Need to get hold of my pride

When did I get, where did I
How was I caught in this game
When will I know, where will I
How will I think of my name

When did I stop feeling sure, feeling safe
And start wondering why, wondering why
Is this a dream, am I here, where are you
What's in back of the sky, why do we cry

Just recently I looked up stuff about that movie because it's just the perfect sleaze melodrama... with Susan Hayward!

apparently Jackie Susanne was lesbian. I never knew that.

7. Anne Hathaway would make a good Anne Welles.
(Of course, I stubbornly stick to the book and insist that Anne Welles must be blonde.

Scarlett Johanson as Jennifer North.

Ellen Page as Neely O'Hara.

Hmmm. I'm going to think about this some more.

8. I was just thinking that Scarlett Johanson could do Jennifer
And Ellen Page is perfect - remember Neely was a few years younger than Jennifer & Anne so the age thing would be great - but can Ellen sing?

10. THat I don't know, but with a movie (as opposed to a stage production),
the singing voices can be dubbed.

9. Horrible idea
There's no possible way anyone could ever duplicate the sheer campy awfulness of the original. :-)

20. What about Brittney Snow or Amanda Bynes
Both can sing and both have a freshness to them, which is what Neely was.
