Join DU's folding@home team and lend a helping hand.
Cross posted from GD

Join the DU folding@home Team. It is an easy way to help your fellow man. All it takes is to download and install a client to your hard drive. All you need to do then is to make it a service (Windows) or a login item (Mac) and it will quietly run in the background. It will not degrade performance, and it is secure. The only times it makes contact with the Stanford servers is when uploading data and downloading new data for processing.

For more info go to their home page at:
http://folding.stanford.edu /

Read the info. If you want to take part download the software here:
http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html

If you want, join our team. when you set up your Folding@home client you will see where you can join a team. Type in the number 48157 and that will enroll you. This is not a requirement. You may want to go it solo, or you may want to be part of a team. Your choice. Taking part in this worthy project is what is important.

Here's our team page:
http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=48157

Please join us and help find the cure for a host of ills that plague the human species.

Thanks.

1. I used to, but the program kept crashing my system.
Once I get my new computer built in a couple of weeks I will install it again.

6. I don't think it was the machine as much as the software. Maybe
memory management issues?

7. Entirely likely.
I'll have a new computer in a couple of weeks though, so I'll definitely install it again.

11. Must have been some kind of conflict with software
or configuration. I'm running it on 5 machines-4 of them dual cores. Have it on my laptop too but that hasn't been fired up in a couple of months. Never had a problem making it work on Win2000, XP, XP X64, or Vista Ultimate.

9. I have a dual core, and that is recogonized as a dual processor machine
So almost any modern chip will run it as you can get 2-4 cores pretty cheaply.

12. I have a dual core now, but I'm happy with just running with
FAH because I've been with them for many years and on various teams. I was folding for another project (distributed folding or something like that), but they completed their work and went dark.

13. Thank you. If you have a fairly new machine you will probably move
up the ranks quickly because the first hundred or so you encounter are not doing much folding.
