Yay! The colonoscopy went fine
Mr. DTBK had a teeny-tiny 1 mm polyp which was removed and looked like "normal mucosa," but will be biopsied. The doctor thought it was nothing at all to worry about. I liked it that they let me sit in his room with him before he was wheeled in and in the recovery room - I've had 3 of these plumbing jobs and they never let him sit with me. Mr. DTBK is the world's best sleeper - there could be a tornado mixed with a hurricane with an earthquake chaser and he'd still be out in less than 10 seconds. He was fast asleep when I went into his recovery room and took about 25 minutes to fully wake up. He wanted to go to Steak 'n Shake, so we pigged out there (very bad, I know) and went home, where he's resting now.

Thanks to all for the good wishes. I think he really was nervous about it. It was so weird to see him in hospital garb with his IV and then being wheeled out in a wheelchair - this is the first procedure of any kind for him.

1. It was a colonoscopy...there's nothing fine about it by definition
I'm glad he got good results though!

3. Good to hear!
You know, I have often thought it is too bad ones last meal before taking the prep has to be so restrictive, because wouldn’t that be the best time to chow down on the things you love but normally wouldn’t eat?

Anyway, glad he did well and you were able to stay with him, I haven’t heard that before, and wish it would become a trend. Colorectal cancer is the third leading cancer in men, diagnosed and causing death.

People really dislike the prep the most, because they aren’t aware of the rest, but for certain people, like those with a family history or inflammatory bowel disease, a colonoscopy every 5-10 years can save a life.

Some stats, just for a reminder to others.

Most commonly diagnosed cancers among men:
Prostate cancer (145.3)
First among men of all races and Hispanic origin.

Lung cancer (85.3)
Second among white (84.4), black (104.5), Asian/Pacific Islander (49.7), and American Indian/Alaska Native (51.1) men.
Third among Hispanic men (48.5).

Colorectal cancer (58.2)
Second among Hispanic men (50.3).
Third among white (57.0), black (67.6), Asian/Pacific Islander (42.0), and American Indian/Alaska Native (32.6) men.

Leading causes of cancer death among men:
Lung cancer (70.3)
First among men of all racial and Hispanic origin.

Prostate cancer (25.4)
Second among white (23.4), black (56.1), American Indian/Alaska Native (16.5), and Hispanic (19.3) men.

Colorectal cancer (21.6)
Third among men of all races and Hispanic origin.
