Poll question: Does YOUR city have anything named afer César Chávez?
Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 05:05 PM by Sean Reynolds
Just thought it'd be fun to ask this question. Here in Salt Lake City we've got a street through downtown SLC named after César Chávez. Actually, it's just a block south of the street named after MLK.

So does your city?

OH and if you vote yes or no, please reply with your city and what is named after him.

4. From what I can gather.....
It's the more progressive communities that have something named after him. THAT or communities with a large Hispanic population.

Not exactly sure what it means for SLC because we've got a pretty large Hispanic population.

Named, amazingly, "RFK". It was an Hispanic union leader, but I don't recall the fellow's name.

Edit: hyphenation

5. Just recently a park; soon a library in the same park.
I believe an elementary school and a street as well. These are city of Phoenix entities, I'm pretty sure in the barrios (for the uninitiated, that is NOT an offensive term) there are dozens of things.

Truly a hero in my estimation.

14. I live in Carlisle, Ohio
That's in between Middletown and Franklin. The locals call Middletown "Middletucky". West Chester is the closest thing we have to a gated community where I live. Very pro Bush and very fascist:(

I can't see anything in Charles County, Maryland, being named for Chavez.

We have a town of La Plata. Down here it's pronounced "la PLAY-tuh." I almost :puke: when I first heard that.

They'd pronounce the leader's name "chay-vez." :eyes:

25. no
But that's okay, it doesn't have anything named after Brigham Young or Joseph Smith either, so I don't mind living here.

SLC is hell. A grotesque a city as I have EVER driven through. Dirty, filthy, and painfully white. Good gawd, never again.
