4. He's B=A=C=K!
"Did you see that?"

"What was that?"

He said the effects were pretty good, in a certain respect. You have to accept the premise of the movie that this is all being recorded by people with a simple-minded camera. The effects were pretty frightening.

Audio Al's Entertainment Number = 6/10

The only thing bad about the movie was the characters in it.

10. Really?...
I was planning on picking up the DVD when time, money and convenience converged. Is it really that bad?

Maybe I'll watch the first ten or fifteen minutes online and make a choice from there. If it really is bad, thanks RL! You just saved me $20.00! :)

11. I think a certain sector of the audience just got nauseated
Thankfully I didn't and I pretty much enjoyed the movie but I can understand that some people had a physical reaction to the camera work and were going to hate it because I can't watch movies with a lot of strobing myself. If you want to see a better monster-attacks-city movie, see the Korean film, "The Host". That had one broad-daylight scene that was so disturbing it was as though it came from a nightmare.

12. It was alright.
I don't get people who say they are actually nauseated when watching camcorder footage, but I guess such a condition exists.

13. "Cloverfield" is to
"Giant Clumsy Monster" films, AKA "'Zillar Flicks"

as "Blair Witch Project" is to horror.

Interesting treatment, but it sure ain't art.

16. I thought it was a great film.
If you're the kind of film viewer that needs your action and suspense spoon-fed to you, then I can see why you might not like it. The fact that the monster remains unseen through most of the film was great, IMO.

17. I watched the first 20 minutes
Couldn't stand anyone at the house party. I figured, "oh well, at least I should enjoy seeing them eaten by the monster". The problem is you really can't even enjoy that, thanks to their Blair Witch first person camera trick.

20. The first 20 minutes is like the long line at the thrill ride
It's boring, but it's worth the wait to get on the roller coaster. Once the action starts, it doesn't stop!

18. I liked it
The dinner-party scene went on a little too long, but after that, it was pretty cool.

**SPOILER**

However, I thought the part where they went back to save the one girl, and she just happened to still be alive, was kind of sily.

21. **Continued Spoiler**
She was impaled by a re-bar. They pulled her off. Yet she's up and running through the streets right afterwards. But then I guess if you're suspending disbelief in giant monsters, you can let that one slip by.

If a big ass monster attacks Downtown, why in Allah's name do you try to cross the Brooklyn Bridge?

Why is it too hard to head Uptown? Ooo, ooo too many scary black people?

The people in that movie were idiots.

29. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it
Prior to watching it, I complained in this very Lounge that the POV-camera gimmick has never been used effectively for more than, say, 24 minutes of screentime.

Having seen the film, I now amend that view.

I have two complaints:

1. The build-up prior to the monster's arrival is too long. Everything that it accomplishes could have been accomplished in less than five minutes

2. The woman in the apartment who was impaled on rebar seemed remarkably unhurt by this debilitating injury. In a film that was aiming for reality-plus-monster, this was jarringly unrealistic.

I saw it on DVD, and I sympathize with those who couldn't stomach the POV-cam on the big screen.
