The RetroLounge Daily Poem Thread (Thu 6/19/2008)
With Small Clouds Around Him

Another kid gets in touch with his parents
by jumping off the Verrazano Bridge. This one

picked rush hour (as good a time as any)
and didn't die from drowning: the mud

killed him, caught him off-guard at low tide,
his legs held like stalks in an over-watered

garden. Some passer-by records the whole
thing, and now on the news you can see how

his winter coat held him a few seconds afloat
but then, from the weight of him wet, split

and let him go. Like reflected clouds,
white cotton wisps - eviscerated

from his coat - rock in the cusp
of the Narrows' shallow waves.

8. Well, I don't really like pools but prefer the ocean. However, I'm sure I can come up with
some other tasks to keep him busy during the hot summer months.
