1. Pit bulls are teh evil, and they all need to be taken and destroyed.
Or something.

:silly:

2. There are so many that have such a capacity to forgive, forget and love
and be rehabilitated into such fine and loving companions.

You probably see that every day, though, don't you?

We as people can learn a lot from them. :)

3. Indeed I do.
I've rehabbed fighters, bait dogs, pits that were physically abused by their owners, starved almost to death. Very forgiving animals.

7. Something interesting I learned the other day...
I realize that you're opposed to the use of animals in working roles, but that's not why I thought you'd be interested. More that it destroys the stereotypical image of pit bulls rather nicely.

Pit bulls make up a growing segment of working police dogs as they have shown themselves to be superior to breeds traditionally used in a number of roles ranging from cadaver search to narcotic and explosive detection to arson and crime scene investigation. They're naturally too people-friendly and curious however to work in other active protective capacities such as patrol.

It's the last sentence that got me as these tend to be the attacking or aggressive roles. I wish I could find the source again...but I can't.

This site I found looking for the first site says similar things though: http://www.lawdogsusa.org/home.html

8. One of the greatest search and rescue dogs was a pitbull.
I really don't have a problem with dogs in working roles, so long as the training isn't cruel and they're "happy" doing the work.

9. Our dog Mick LOVES his "work"
Edited on Tue Jun-17-08 10:04 PM by LostinVA
To the point where we can't say his trainers name or the word "sheep." Hell, he can't even be in the house, if sheep are on TV.

We're going on vacation to Alaska in July and he's staying at his trainer's sheep farm. He probably won't want to come home, especially since he'll get to live in the house with EIGHT other border collies, and he'll get a herding lesson every day.

4. It's very interesting.
Vick had to torture the dogs to make them violent.

10. Heh, I already emailed that to someone earlier.
A friend of mine once told me she wants to work for one of those programs where people teach prisoners to train dogs to be various kinds of therapy dogs, so I thought she'd very much like to read that news item.

12. Those programs are absolutely amazing!
The video linked in that story shows that Leo also serves in that capacity.
