Does anyone watch those painting shows? Too funny.
I live in a painters' hood and today I've been watching some in a row and how these guys arrange their stuff is more fun than watching the stuff they turn out.

What kind of pallete, where they keep their rag, how they clean their brushes in combat, how they mix stuff in the middle of things, how we need natural LIGHT which you can't get in a teevee studio -- it's sort of weird that most of them try to generate rules instead of telling the truth: "If I needed to use my mother's hair to apply paint to a surface, I would scalp her and apologize off camera later!"

And those creepy, whispery voices. Get a gig but for gawd's sake, don't scare the pants offa people into the bargain. :scared:

18. His appearance seemed to be from the late 80s. Is that about right?
There was some other guy on that drove me nuts because the camera was facing him and the back of his easel, not looking over his shoulder and you spent the whole show waiting to see what he was doing at intervals. The director probably did that to give his show a distinctive look but it gives the audience a crick in the neck.

22. He died in 1995.

While I didn't like his finished products, I thought his technique was amazing, really. I used to lay on the couch on Saturdays, recovering from partying the night before, a just relax watching Bob paint.

3. I couldn't paint like Bob if i practiced for a million years...
I have no "happy littles" in my world... i don't know where my trees live...

HALP!

I do, however, have some memories of being home sick from school, and spending the day in bed with ginger ale, crackers, and endless Bob Ross shows to keep me company. May he rest in peace amongst his happy little trees.

4. I love Bob Ross
I've never been a painter (well, not since the age of 12), but I've always liked the Bob Ross show. I find it to be incredibly relaxing, but never stupid or insulting.

5. Nobody disrespects Bob Ross!
Nobody!

And in case you're wondering, Bob Ross was in on the joke; not long before he died, he made a promo for MTV, calling the music channel "lots of happy little trees."

He made the world a better place while he was here. I miss him. :(

16. That's great. I never had time to watch any of these shows
while they were current. Yesterday there was a bunch of them on in a row on a local station.

His landscapes aren't really my thing, but I've gotta give him props for inspiring many, many people to paint. Plus, he was hella funny.

12. Bob Ross was not creepy at all. Many a time his soothing voice
put me to sleep when I wasn't feeling well. His voice was the voice of my husband's family. I loved Bob.

15. I tivo'd a couple of shows -- your friend and some other guy.
This is what's creepy or at least, not quite natural: when painters paint, their breathing is different -- sort of like when people do any physical steady activity like carrying groceries or walking fast. If you talk at the same time, you don't have the air to speak normally. Watch one of his segments if you get a chance and check it out. Or, any of these folks, for that matter, because they all seem to do it to an extent.

20. I didn't notice it until I tried to talk on the phone and paint
at the same time. I had to take the call and I didn't want to stop. My air got short and it was a big surprise to me. :hi:

17. I like those shows something innocent about them.
Kinda of like those Spanish language learning shows. Reminds me of junior high sitting in the back of the class, in the dark, copping a feel from the girl sitting next to me, watching some film strip on Barcelona with the record skipping, and all the while the teacher had snuck out for a smoke.\

Fuck You and you Tia Tequila viewing habits. It's hip to be square baby. Go back to your MTV Hitler.
