Protest Songs Redux
Well I finished my mix of Protest Songs, that I referenced earlier this week. Thanks to all those who made suggestions. The track listing is as follows.

1. Common People - Pulp
2. Volunteers - Jefferson Airplane
3. Sunday Bloody Sunday (Live) - U2
4. The Revolution Will Not Be Televised - Gil Scott-Heron
5. The Guns of Brixton - The Clash
6. Mao Tse-Tung Said - A3
7. Night of the Living Basheads - Public Enemy
8. Guerilla Radio - Rage Against The Machine
9. Rebel Music (With Prodigy of Mobb Deff) - Wyclef Jean
10. We Shall Overcome (Live) - Joan Baez
11. The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll (Live) - Bob Dylan
12. Strange Fruit - Billie Holiday
13. 49 Bye Byes / America's Children (Live) - Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
14. Fortunate Son (Live) - Pearl Jam
15. Waist Deep in the Big Muddy - Pete Seeger
16. What's Going On? - Marvin Gaye
17. Draft Morning - The Byrds
18. Driven to Tears - The Police
19. The Lamb's Book of Life - Sinead O'Conner
20. Redemption Song - Bob Marley

Honorable Mentions - Rock the Nation - Spearhead, Exhuming McCarthy - REM, War - Edwin Starr, One by One - Chumbawumba, Working Class Hero - John Lennon, Talking 'bout a Revolution - Tracy Chapman.

I used Rhapsody to compile the list; those of you who have it can download the play list at my website ( http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com ) in a bit (say by 10:30 EST). Using Rhapsody is why "Working Class Hero" and "Talking about a Revolution" dropped off.

Enjoy

Bryant

1. OK
The songs are up at the website for those who have Rhapsody -- > http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com

It's kind of interesting. The geek side of me loves Rhapsody, it's pretty stable, and it has a large collection of songs, and you don't wade into the moral complexities that Kazaa or Napster brings you. It costs; but about as much as a cd a month.

Still the other side of me says, well, yeah, it's alright for you as a well off white guy, but what about all the other democrats who are broke and stuff; do you really need to flaunt your wealth in this way? Plus aren't you selling out a bit, even if you aren't getting any money from Rhapsody (and I'm not), by telling people that it's great?

Oh well, maybe I think about this too much.
