Roman Polanski a piece of garbage and so is the Hollywood that supports this ass....
I just saw the HBO documentary on the "trials" of poor, poor Roman Polanski. What a piece of sympathetic garbage. Now, don't get me wrong, I think it is terrible about what happened to Sharon Tate, but I'm talking about his sexual assault of a 13 yr old girl.

This guy was 44 years old! 44 years old! Drugs a 13 year old girl in Jack Nicholson's house and sexually assaults her.

But what really ticked me off was how Hollywood acted when he was nominated (and won) for an oscar. This fucking guy was not railroaded, framed or blacklisted for bullshit.

No wonder the right is so successful at painting Hollywood as far, freaking out of touch with people.

2. For what he did, no, he received a slap on the wrist...
even though the documentary showed some agreements were made and broken between the judge and defense attorney, Polanski ended up getting a slap on the wrist for what he did - remember, a 44 year old adult, drugged and sexually assaulted a 13 year old girl.

3. That rant would be sensical if it wasn't just about Hollywood.
I think most rich people get away with that stuff not cause it's Hollywood... but cause they're rich.

4. R. Kelly is rich
He is standing trial under a circumstance where almost everyone would have the charges dropped.

13. Well Polanski didn't get away with it.
Hence the whole fleeing to Paris thing. And in addition it was the seventies. Statutory rape wasn't as big a deal then and time does heal wounds. Patty Hearst is showing dogs at Westminster for Christ sake.

19. He fled the country don't blame us blame France.
Honestly he would have been better off manning up and taking his punishment he very well may not have seen the inside of a jail cell. The rules and attitudes were very different in the seventies

8. What he did was wrong
and he ended up having to leave the country. He makes good movies and what happened to Sharon Tate would have fucked anyone up for life. I don't condone what he did, but I kinda understand it. The whole thing is just pathetic no matter what angle you look at it from.

11. He should have served his time
We used to tell a joke about him in the late 70s:

Did you hear what the title of the new Roman Polanski movie is?

Close Encounters With The Third Grade!

I have some sympathy because of the death of his wife, Sharon Tate, and the guilt he must have felt about not being there when it happened (although, they would probably would have killed him, too). If he had served his time, it would all be over now.

14. Then so should I
after my little sister died and my lover killed himself I had a brief affair with a 17 year old boy. Grief can do strange things to you. Should I go to jail? I can't judge him cuz to a certain extent I did the same thing. He was perfectly willing, but he was underage.

Khash.

21. Well...
He didn't have to leave the country, he fled the country. There is a difference.

And to your lower reply, there is a huge difference between a seventeen year old and a drugged 13 year old.

12. Lots of great artists were/are not very nice people
yeah, Polanski is a creep, but he is an excellent filmmaker, and it doesn't seem out of line to me for the film industry to recognize that.

Judgment of is actions is the role of the legal system, even if he did skip bail. (and that BTW is the reason he is still persona non grata in the US - the statute of limitations is long expired on the rape itself) It really wasn't quite a rich-guy-gets-a-slap-on-the-wrist situation, since he escaped punishment by fleeing US legal jurisdiction.

15. I think it's okay to separate the art from the artist.
But I understand that some people are unwilling to do so. That's fine.

You cannot compare RKelly because the legal framework is very different now.

What I didn't know until I saw the movie was that Polanski did serve time in the Chino pen. The prison system decided to cut him loose early.

20. O.K. (to the posters to the o.p.), where is THE LINE? What about Nick (HOGAN)?
His pal is paralyzed. He and his dad talk about doing a reality segment when Nick is released from jail and for "the most money I can make."

(There's more to my point that I'm not getting --or MAKING)
