I Don't Do Facebook
Or MySpace. And I'm 30-something. There's something very high school about it. Plus I value my privacy.

Is it just me? Probably.

1. Same here....
I am not really sure how any of those types of sites work anyway.

3. I don't either.
OK, I'm in my 40s, but I've been working in the Internet and e-commerce industry since the beginning. This is the first time a major online "revolution" has happened that I just don't get. MySpace, Facebook, Twitter and all the rest of the "look at me, oh please look at me" social networking stuff leaves me cold.

6. While some people are on there for that reason
it does come in handy for keeping up with friends. Especially as you graduate and get scattered to the wind. And if something tragic should happen to your cellphone it is one stop shopping to start rebuilding your contacts list.

4. I wondered if there were people like you
I've thought about it and no way would I do shit like that, even when I was 20.

5. I have my own site. Missus got into Myspace.
I prefer my own place - no pollution from anyone else, if I want ads on the site then I put them there and hopefully get some revenue from it ... but my sites so low traffic anyway (just friends/family/spamartists) I don't bother.

Mark.

9. I only use it to get in touch with old friends.
I've found old friends from high school I've been looking for for years.

10. Nope.
I don't either. Most companies search through those sites and will not hire you if they see stuff they don't like.

12. i like facebook
i hate myspace. it's great for keeping track of people, and makes it easy to throw parties, etc. Some people take it much too seriously, though.

I will say, however, that faceboook has gone downhill. It started out that you had to have a university email to make an account. Kept an older user base. Then they allowed high school kids, then everyone. More like myspace everyday

13. They're just ways of keeping in touch with people
If you don't want to do the high school stuff, don't.

I don't understand the elitism.

17. Not sure what you mean by "elitism"
I'm just saying. Why do you want everyone all up in your business?

Again, I'm probably just a 30-something fuddy duddy. If you're into it, knock yourself out.

14. I finally did both about a month ago after my daughter was contacted by some old buddies
I don't have much personal information disclosed, or blogs or favs...I just decided what the heck and did it.

It is just bare bones stuff.

Oh, and I am in my 50's.

15. Like most things, it's what you make it.

I have relatively young uncle who still thinks computers are for kids in school.

He can't understand what a grown-up would need one for. He also says he values his privacy.

I like both for different reasons.
MySpace is for keeping up with friends and some coworkers. It is an easy way to keep up with people. My husband thinks it is just a souped up version of an AOL profile screen and has no use for it.

Facebook has a lot of fun applications. Only my highschool is listed there and I befriend everyone since I have some apps that require a lot of "friends", like 500+.

19. I am about to turn 29 and I agree with you.
My friends coerced me into joining myspace (after three years of arm-twisting) in 2005, I accidentally met my boyfriend on there, we both decided to call it myspace quits last summer, and I have only been on and off facebook, which I find less juvenile than myspace, but also more boring.

I think the need to share all your personal details and bragging rights with others in this way is possibly pathological. I can understand the draw of staying in touch with people, especially if you have friends in far-flung, often international, places - but it still strikes me as much nicer to send personal emails - or, gasp - letters.
