So, How happy are you that Obama is now the Nominee
and Hillary Clinton has acknowledged it?

I am ecstatic, giddy, and drunk with happiness.

How about you?

I just feel kind of neutral. I guess I can say if he ends up being half as good as his supporters seem to think he'll be, I'll be content, but I'm not going to get too excited yet. I'm expecting no miracles.

because even though I may call you a Bush-enabling, covert-McCain-supporting, AIPIC-loving neocon enabler, you know damn well that I am joking around and don't mean a single word of it. :D

Seriously, I'm more happy that primary season is finally done with. Neither Obama or Clinton were my first choice this year, but that hasn't happened since 1988 (and even then, I had serious doubts by the time of the convention).

Right now I'm just glad all the intra-party shit-slinging is over, and we can start fighting the REAL enemy.

6. Honestly
I think they are both weak candidates, but I also acknowledge the importance of them in history. I have learned that politics is pretty much a load of crap and we have no say so in what goes on. When I first voted in 1984 I thought my vote meant something, it doesn't.

I am pretty much liberal in my views, but it is naive to think you have any power.

Just kidding.

I was for Kucinich at the beginning, but came to realize that he has very little chance of winning, and the more I listened to Obama, the more I liked him. I really feel as if this is a watershed moment in the history of America. He is the direct manifestation of "in with the new, out with the old" in our political world right now.

People want to take back our country, they ARE energized to get out there and DO IT. I really think Obama is the Charismatic leader we as a country need to move forward from where we are to where we want to be.

Of course.

The drive was interesting. I got the duty of driving him home after a political fundraiser he did for the congressional candidate I was working for at the time. he did one of his shows for the fundraiser and it was ALL about politics. It was HYSTERICAL and was even funnier than any of his Prairie Home Companion radio shows I have ever heard or seen. but the drive home was quiet, he could have been very tired, but I got the impression he was not interested in 1 on 1 conversation. He did talk a lot to the girlfriend of another campaign member who I was also giving a ride home to. Infact he thinks that Garrison was hitting on her...

It was pretty neat to get a tour of the historic places of St Paul with him as the narrator though, at 2am...

but not by his winning the nomination, finally...

But by the number of people that stood in line, braved potential rain to see him talk for only a few minutes. There was such a variety of people of every metric you want to use there. It was awe-inspiring.

That is what has touched me tonight. I don't know what the official numbers are, but the Xcel Center holds 20K people, reports are there was another 20k outside watching it on the jumbotron and I bet another 10k left when they couldn't get in.

There were so many people there it was unreal. The only time I have seen more people in 1 place is for a Michigan home game at the BigHouse...

17. A few weeks ago, I had a stress test ...

Ran on that fucking tortuous device known as an inclining treadmill for almost 20 minutes.

I feel about like I felt then.

I'm glad it is (almost) over. Still had to go lay down in a machine that took pictures of my heart. That sucked too, but it didn't suck as badly.

And it all got better in the days afterward.

The result of my stress test was quite good as it turned out. Doing it sucked, though.

I think the whole primary season has been closely analogous to running on a treadmill for 20 minutes ... tiring.

This is not a slam at Obama at all, just the primary itself. It's been arduous.

I've seen a lot of good people I respect, both here and in the "real world," go at each other with a viciousness I've had trouble witnessing.

I have stayed out of the primary fight for the most part, keeping my powder dry for the real battle, so to speak.

I intend to turn into one serious bastard when confronting the McCain Moonbat and whatever minions he can summon from the depths of his jowls.

Seriously ... that man has a jowl problem. I keep expecting him to start shaking his head violently and sounding (and looking) like that king (or whatever he was) of the Jar Jar Binks underwater clan from Star Wars, Episode Suck 1.

Maybe that's too long and obscure a comparison ... rabid dog says it nicely, so I'll stick with that.

I don't see many Democrats too interested in solving this problem. I'll vote for Obama, but do not expect him to go after Bush as Bush deserves (and as will go toward solving the BushCo/OPEC monopoly).

46. This was the richest field of candidates I've ever seen.
I am happy that we now have a presumptive nominee, and we can all start focusing on beating McBush. (Which won't be too difficult.)

I suspect McBush is going to go down in a blaze of fire in the GE. :)

67. Yeah...it came down to...
a race between my 4th choice and 6th choice. I ranked them all on my preferences months before the first primary vote was cast. My guy was Kucinich followed by Edwards.

Oh well...I have a nominee. Now it's time to kick ass, hoist the black flag and give no quarter to his enemies.

61. Miserable and with no hope for the future, since you asked.
Don't worry, I'll vote for the Democrat, because voting for McCain is unthinkable. But I honestly don't know if I'll be more upset if Obama wins or loses. If he loses, we get McCain. If he wins, we get our own version of Ronald Reagan--an inexperienced demagogue with no apparent conscience and little hope of success. That's my opinion, and shortly I'll stop offering it, since he won and further trashing of him only hurts McCain. But since the OP asked, I answered.

71. No. But that debate is over, so let's sing kumbaya and move on, I guess.
I've backed losing candidates before. Jesse Jackson, Tom Harkin come to mind. Every time a candidate loses, you feel a bit saddened, sometimes (as with Jackson) even bitter about the winner. In this primary Clinton was my third choice, and might have been lower if anyone else was left when I settled on her.

But I've never seen a Democratic candidate I despised this much. He's exactly the type of candidate that drove me to the Democratic Party, since we usually don't allow them. All emotion. Dirty campaigner behind the scenes who pretends to be nice onstage, aka Reagan or W. Full of hubris. No experience to do what he's trying to do, and listening to his speeches I don't feel he has a clue what he's going to have to do. He's pretty at talking about hope and change, but his understanding of how to make it happen is about the same level as the average high school student body president.

Again, the point is moot now, so I'm just getting my last frustration out. I won't help McCain by trashing Obama during the general (though I'll probably complain if he loses), though that means I'll probably just be quiet this election cycle. Just an observer. I've never done that before.

80. It's about more than winning.
He has to do the job. I don't get why so many voters think the president of the US doesn't need some experience. Some people who wouldn't visit a mechanic with so little experience seem to think that running the free world and the known universe is just a matter of saying stuff to make us feel pretty. This guy was a local politician with a questionable career two years ago. We've never had a president with less experience, or even close to that little. I'm worried he may do more harm by winning than by losing.

132. Woodrow Wilson
Woodrow Wilson was governor of NJ for 6 weeks before he started his presidential bid and had little over a year of experience when he won the Democratic nomination.

I know that Wilson thusly had on-paper executive experience (How much actual experience is debatable since he spent virtually his entire term as governor running for President, leaving his deputy governor to run the state based on Wilson's ideas). Prior to running for governor of NJ, Wilson had never held office...he was the president of Princeton; previously he was a college professor, a writer and a lawyer.

You can't argue that Wilson was any more qualified than Obama.

Jus' sayin'

140. That dramatically understates Wilson's qualifications
Wilson held a PhD in political science (the only president to have a doctorate), and for decades was recognized as the premier scholar on Congress and US government. He was a constant advocate of reforming the government to create a more powerful presidency.

He served as the chief executive of Princeton for eight years before running for governor, and was governor for three--though as you say, he spent much of that time running for president. As executive of both organizations, he had a national reputation as an aggressive reformer.

There's nothing of that level of substance or achievement on a national stage in Obama's history.

I don't believe he can pull it off, especially how screwed up this country is now.

The current misadministration has set so many horrible things in motion, as I knew they would, we would need an Edwards to set things straight. I realize Edwards did not much experience either, but there are "do'ers" and there are "talkers". Edwards always managed to get things DONE and truly seemed committed to righting the wrongs since 2000.

Don't worry, I would never vote for a Repuke, but I am very nervous about the future.

Waiting to concede does nothing but keep her in the limelight just a little longer. What a bitter and disgusting person she is.

111. Happy for America
that maybe we could elect a black man president. I think it sends a message to the world that we could be turning a corner? We could have a person that will talk to our enemies and listen to the opinions of our friends. He needs to build a strong cabinet then we need to focus on the phony prick McSame. He is an ill tempered prick that has no business running a chippy let alone a country.

He'll be a fine candidate and hopefully a good president. He is a very good and inspiring public speaker, I will say that for sure.

I also liked Hillary a lot and never got some of the whole "hate Hillary/Hillary is evil" crapola that infected GDP so badly like the rage virus. She ran a strong campaign, her husband is still the coolest guy on two legs, and she'll continue to be a leader in the Senate (if she's not picked to be VP, that is).

But I voted for Edwards. And had I had the chance, I would have voted for him again. If only because I think his daughter Cate is amazingly beautiful, but seriously because he really had his finger on the pulse of the situation that affects way too many Americans, that being poverty.

All in all, as long as we win in November, I'll be happy.

And I'll be so happy to hear the words "Former President George W. Bush", you can't even imagine.

My opinion is that he is a once in a life time leader, and our nation will achieve great things under his Presidency.

I meant I'm happy the DU will come together and fight the GOP. Just like Obama did last night in his speech.

142. Bleh

I always thought he was too inexperienced and, like Hillary, too fully bought and paid for by the corporations to be someone I could get excited about. I gave up on giving a damn about the race for the White House once Edwards (for whatever reason) dropped out. For that matter, I haven't even once bothered to turn on the TV to see Obama talk (the fact that I canceled the TV portion of my cable bill is incidental to this).

I think a Democratic president's mere presence at the helm will help in some ways, no matter how corporatist or otherwise beholden they may be to the status quo (one example of some importance is that it may start to positively change world opinion of the US) but whoever inherits the current mess is going to have their work cut out for them and it's likely to get somewhat worse before it gets better. Obama may or may not be up to the job, but I wish he'd given it a run after at least a few more years working in the political trenches. As for the fact of his African heritage, that's never even been a factor for me -- same with Hillary Clinton's XX-chromosome status -- perhaps partly because I'm not an original Born-In-The-USA American and the thought of women or non-Anglos running a country is just not a particularly big deal. Still, I do recognize that this is a fairly major step in the evolution of the US as a society.

Regardless of all that incidental stuff, I wish the man well because, as unexcited as I have been by the two choices foisted on us, I still recognize that there are inherent differences between today's Democrats and today's Republicans and that any Republican president now (McCain happening to be one of the more dangerous ones vying for the job) would quite literally spell the end of the USA, and other chunks of the planet, once and for all. Obama may be largely another corporate puppet -- I sure hope I'm proven wrong on this -- and his relative inexperience and occasional goofs may well prove inconsequential or even a kind of asset, but he's still way far better than the Dark Side's supposed candidate just as the right-wing (by international standards) Democratic Party, for all its myriad faults, remains a better choice than the neocon-controlled far-right Republican Party. I hate to admit it, but Nader and his Amazing Inflatable Ego were partly right in that there are few differences between the two major American political parties but those differences are still undeniable and important. For that same reason, I'd vote for Obama over the most moderate and thoughtful (if such a creature does, indeed, exist today) Republican. And I'm sort of thankful that Obama's the choice, given that for some reason we were only presented with two mediocre picks, because I would have had a much harder time holding my nose and voting for Hillary Clinton in November. I may not be a huge fan of Obama -- largely indifferent to him and not expecting him to push a particularly 'liberal' line -- but I outright do not trust Hillary.

143. I'm adjusting
I've known this was coming although Obama was not my first choice. I'm adjusting to the fact that it is a "done deal" now, and I will definitely vote for him in November.

I have had some misgivings about him because, particularly, in my opinion (and am I still allowed to actually have an opinion on here without being flamed oppressively???!!!) he doesn't have more experience.

But I'm going to do my best to be open minded for the remainder of the campaign and I am genuinely hoping that I come around to being an ardent supporter.

More than anything and above all else, I want the Republicans out of the white house and I am cognizant of the fact that, unless we all learn to come together, we won't get the Republicans out of the white house.

151. I'll vote for him
I will not be happy to do so. It will be a nose holding half hearted vote. There were better alternatives. There were others who better represented my interests and priorities. It is not the first time I have felt that way at the end of primary season.

I won't be donating to his campaign or knocking on doors on his behalf. There won't be any yard signs or bumper stickers. Or persuasive efforts on my behalf. I will vote for him and I will not undermine his campaign message or attack him. That is all. I have very little interest in following the election. Probably will direct my interests elsewhere.

In the meantime I will worry that somebody will do violence to him. I will worry that the party will remain divided. I will worry that he will get his butt soundly defeated come November. I will worry that he will not change a dmaned thing when elected and will accomplish little in office. I will worry that those he has energized will become disillusioned and apathetic.

but my top 6 went by the wayside months ago so I've made my peace with voting for whichever one survived the primaries.
