A Hand Written "Thank You" card from Ursula K Le Guin
Ok, I can count on one hand how many times I've written a 'fan letter' but after reading Ursula Le Guin's latest novel, Lavinia (http://www.ursulakleguin.com/Index-Lavinia.html) I wrote a short note expressing how much I enjoyed the story. A truly wonderful telling of the Aeneid (acutually just the last half, after Aeneas lands in Latinum)

And today I get a hand written thank you note in the mail. I opened my mail box and saw a letter post marked from Portland, OR and I start wondering and scouring my memory for someone I know in Portland. It seemed to me there's someone I should be thinking of but for the life of me I can't think of who. I have to take care of a bunch of stuff before I can get to opening the mail, finally I do and I see a handwritten Thank you on a card. Just that "Thank you" and my name.

I do this so rarely, and this is the only reply I think I've gotten (except a form letter from the Dallas Cowboys when I was 7 or 8). I feel a little silly about my level of excitement about it :) Should I keep the card and envelope?

4. I'd cherish that
"The Lathe of Heaven" is the best science fiction I've ever read.

10. I read that too after Lavinia
I know of Le Guin of course and read some shorter stories by her but just never happened to pick up any of her novels until just recently. Silly me, I've learned to correct that mistake.

6. She's extremely cool, and that card is extremely cool of her
I don't think I've ever heard a negative word said about her.

Kudos to you on this lovely exchange with the author. If it were me, I would certainly keep he card and envelope.

8. Of course you should keep it ...

Hell, I still have an e-mail I have exported and imported across several systems and e-mail clients that I got from Harry Turtledove years and years ago.

A handwritten note, even just a "thank you," is a treasure.

9. keep it of course!
I know it feels silly, I mean people are people and making some so important is silly.. but a great writer!? I'd be proud to have the card from her!

I have two old books of hers that I've never read, they're my husband's books from like 20 years ago :O I'll try to remember to read one of them soon.
