One wrong click and I have "IE Antivirus" on my computer
AARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH... been trying to manually get it off my laptop for 2 hours. I don't want to end up buying the removal tool from the jerks who created it!

Anyone?

1. Do NOT buy the removal tool
The removal tool is even even worse. I picked up the WinFixer virus/malware a few years ago. Neither of my anti spyware programs could do anything about it. I searched around and found step by step instructions on its removal by carefully editing the registry.

Make sure you have everything backed up before you attempt anything like that.

5. There are some anti-virus programs that do more damage to computers than the viruses.

3. Try system restore. Just roll the system back
to before you got the malware. Also you could go to Major Geeks.com and down load Spyware Doctor starter edition. It's free and the one of the best.

7. I'm on a personal laptop-
system restore only works if you set it up to restore occasionally and I didn't. I found Spyware Doctor on Major Geeks but not a free version. It detects but doesn't remove threats unless you buy it as far as I can tell.

10. Oh, that's not good
here is the link for the free version

http://majorgeeks.com/Spyware_Doctor_-_Starter_Edition_d5790.html

uninstall the other version, first. Although be warned, I have had problems using the free one, on computers that had the paid version. So I can't guarantee success.

13. I downloaded it but the version you download does not
do anything. Then when I uninstalled it, the Starter Edition was offered. I downloaded it and tried it- but I still get a System Error message (telling me to buy the product) every time a new IE page loads.

Great response times, and these things have a way of changing themselves quickly like the Vundo and Zlob trojans.

15. Bug out and nuke it from orbit
A friend of mine does this for me when I pick up something nasty. The only things I keep are word docs, pictures and... that is about it. So We back them up, reformat the hard drive, reinstall XP. Takes way less than 2 hours.
