There are, apparently, two kinds of DUers.
Those who would never, ever sky dive and those who would love to sky dive if they ever got the chance. :-)

I am one of the former and think the other kind are insane.

Come on. Live a little.

10. How far is it usually?
Seems to me that as soon as you've jumped out of the plane, the actual altitude doesn't matter.

Edited on Mon May-26-08 12:16 PM by jasonc
My entire jumping out of planes experience was in the Marines. We did various altitudes and methods ranging from 800 feet to well above 10k feet.

I have even jumped out of helicopters without a parachute and just a line to hold onto...

the real question is this:

Are the people that join that way to begin with and the training just make it more obvious, or does the training make them that way...

Count me among the NEVER crowd. Of course I hate roller coasters and other things like that too.

21. Skydive? Not intentionally.
Edited on Mon May-26-08 12:50 PM by ocelot
My only exposure to parachutes was a few years ago when I took an aerobatics course. If you do aerobatics you are required by FAA regulations to wear a parachute, just in case something goes, you know, horribly wrong. So this instructor is buckling me into the parachute and explaining how to open it up if that horribly wrong thing does happen. "Just pull this cotter pin on the door so it falls off," he says, "then just jump out and pull the D-ring on this cord, here."

And I'm thinking, now I'm going to go fly upside down in an airplane made of cloth and wood and maybe a wing will fall off and I'll have to jump out hanging from a fucking parachute. Excellent.

But it was fun and I didn't have to use the parachute. I don't think I could ever bring myself to go skydiving intentionally. I will fly airplanes. I would rather not jump out of them.

:scared: :scared: :scared:

33. I have had that same conversation
with an aerobatics instructor.

I was not sure I would be able to make it out of the plane if something really bad happened. I doubted anything would happen while the plane was level in cruise flight...

once clear of the plane, I don't think there would have been a problem, but getting clear of the thing, thats the hard part I think.

24. I got no desire
If I'm gonna spend money and time on something I want it to be more interesting, like a fabulous trip somewhere :) or help some charities or something, if I had money to throw away I mean.

If someone GAVE me a ticket and said that's all I could do with it then I'd go along with it I guess.

25. I was invited to skydive for a date
but just couldn't do it.

the guy and a friend did skydive. they jumped too closely to one another and the other guy knocked the guy who asked me unconscious. luckily for that guy, he had his hand on the thing to pull the chute open and did so during the knock him out moment. Otherwise he would have been roadkill.

That sort of settled the issue for me.

As I've gotten older I've gotten more afraid of things like that anyway. Now even the ferris wheel makes me feel sick to my stomach.

37. I was a paratrooper in the Army. I jumped from planes on purpose.
There first five jumps I made in order to graduate from Jump School were amazing! Those first jumps were great fun, all the fun of that sort that I could ever need or want in fact. Trouble was i still had over three years left on my enlistment...
