Coconut oil - Part Deux
My 16oz tub is now a little more than half gone - and I didn't get it until FRIDAY. Still too soon to notice any health benefits or effects in myself or the animals. It seems to really be helping my face - and I've been having a lot of problems with it lately, so I'm really hoping this shows some promise.

I just took a shower and when I got out I rubbed it in my damp hair, and all over my body from head to toe. WILL SOMEONE KEEP THE DOGS AND CATS OFF ME PLEAAAAAAAAAAASE??? I was standing at the bathroom sink and felt something on my heel. It was my CRF kitty licking the coconut oil off me. The dogs have tried and failed - and I want to keep it that way. I have animals following me EVERYWHERE. I guess this makes me popular?

3. Hahaha!
OH NO - I moved and got Bodhi's attention. Had to fight him off - :P

They think I am the BERRIES. I'm surprised you're still up. I was thinking while marinating myself that you should do your feet up!

6. I have a load of clothes in the dryer.
I'm waiting until they finish. In fact, they may be finished by now.

I have the day off tomorrow - I can sleep late. :)

I think I will put some oil in a separate tub to keep in the bathroom for my feet.

I wonder if there is coconut oil in lip balm - you know how Bodhi always want to lick my lips after I put some on.

7. It's in MANY lip balms...

And it's awesome for your lips. I've got some one mine now. :*

Well I JUST got the dogs washed and got out of the shower. I put my robe on (waiting to "absorb" before getting pjs on) and came straight to the computer where I made that post above. That took a LONG time. Bodhi actually went and hid from me when I called him to come take a shower. LOL That's BAD!!

8. Well, that explains it.
LOL - poor Bodhi really hates the shower doesn't he?

Mmmmm...:*

9. OK, now I'm going to bed.
Have a good night, and don't go sliding off the sheets because you're all covered with coconut oil. :)

10. My cat loves coconut oil! I make an awesome lotion using coconut oil and aloe vera gel.
I have bad combination skin that gets flaky and dry, but then super oily when I use *any* kind of lotion. I used to use straight aloe vera gel, but it left me feeling like I'd put hair gel all over my face. So I experimented a little bit. I fill a container big enough to fit my immersion blender with straight aloe vera gel (the kind with no alcohol). Then I warm coconut oil carefully until it's liquid. I slowly pour the oil into the aloe little by little, blending it with my immersion blender. It's cool because it whips up and turns opaque white, it looks like very expensive lotion! When I get the ratio I like, I fill empty bottles for me and my husband. It's FANTASTIC. It's the perfect combination of soothing and moisture without too much oil, and it has nothing in it that will irritate your skin (fragrance, color, weird ingredients). I'm sure you could also make it in your food processor or mixer if you don't have an immersion blender.

11. That's a great idea!
Not greasy either, I would imagine.

Right now I'm feeling a little bit like I've been slathered in baby oil, only not so intense. It's lighter than baby oil, but still feels a bit greasy. My hair, however, feels fabulous!

I probably haven't figured out the right about to use as a lotion yet - because it feels as if it wouldn't feel greasy if I used *just* the right amount. I'm definitely going to keep your suggestion in mind too - I'll have to check into making that a project.

12. Thanks! No, not greasy at all. It soaks right in! My husband has terribly dry skin on his
hands and he LOVES it. So it seems to work for different types of skin.

13. have you noticed if bugs like you any better?
I'd like to buy some, but I'm kind of afraid, here in the humid south, that I'd walk outside and immediately be eaten alive by bugs. Has that been an issue for you?

14. I haven't noticed -
It's not really bug season here yet, and really, we don't have that many bugs even in the dead of summer. If I still lived in Michigan I'd probably have better information in that department.

I will say that it's used all over in the tropics by native people - so my *guess* would be it's not that much of a problem.

Hmm... I just did a quick search on google for "coconut oil bugs" - it seems to be in prevalent use for natural bug repellents. Looks like you may be in luck!

15. well that would be fantastic - smell good, have soft skin, AND
repel bugs. Sounds like a winner!

I hadn't even thought it through - you're absolutely right, it is so prevalent in the tropics and I can't imagine anyone living there would willingly slather themselves with something that would cause misery :D

16. There are various concoctions people make it seems -
more info online, of course.

I also HIGHLY recommend using it to cook with. (we are, by the way, ONLY talking about virgin, unrefined coconut oil. Anything that's refined is a big NO) I made a veggie stir fry with it yesterday that ROCKED, and my dogs and cats can't get enough of it. I've started giving them spoonfuls every day. It's solid up to around 76 degrees. Melts easily when you rub it between your hands to use as lotion.
