So how much do they pay insurance customer service people...
To sit around on the phone all day and say "no..sorry..can't help you". Just wondering.....:mad: :banghead: :cry: :argh:

I have had to deal with those people. I swear, they are part of a conspiracy. The turnover rate is high, you get people who don’t know what they are doing. You get people who think anyone who calls them is looking for a handout, forget that you have paid for it.

You also get the sellouts and people who genuinely lack compassion. I think health insurance is one of the worst.

4. My daughter used to work for a credit card company
Taking calls from desperate people who either couldn't make their payments because of some catastrophic occurrence or people who didn't understand the industry and got suckered into credit lines that they shouldn't have had. She hated it and always felt helpless having to tell people, "nope, sorry..."

Our health care system (and I use the term loosely) sucks. :hug:

or being a file clerk -

The hard part is that you are judged on the volume of calls you take, not the resolution you offer, and generally have no power to do anything anyway. You are wired to your computer and phone, and the calls just come automatically, and most people are angry. The calls come one right after another and it begins to feel like you are just pounding your head against the wall.

You can't even unhook to settle down after a bad call. And every week you will get a chart showing how many calls you took, and if you took to long on a call to actually solve a problem, your call volume will go down, and no raise. If you speed through a bunch of calls, regardless of the outcome, you will be called a "customer service superstar" and get a better raise.

I did customer service for a auto/home insurance company for about a year, and I can honestly say it was the longest year I have every had at a job. Man, did it suck to be me that year.

6. call center work: between 8 and 10 per hour pretty much everywhere in the US
maybe betweeen 8 and 10 per week in india.

I made $10.50 an hour. After three years, my nerves -- and my blood pressure -- simply couldn't take it any more.

The only thing worse than dealing with a powerless stooge on the other end of the line is having to negotiate ten minutes' worth of voice-interface menus before you even get to the stooge.


Round the office, they used to call me Mr. Customer Service, but that was financial services, rather than insurance. If you want to gripe about the poor performance of your mutual fund with holdings in short-term municipal obligations, I'm your man.

bonuses for # of calls cleared/hour. Raises for maintaining a high clear rate, high-$-total up-selling and achieving "cost-saving efficiencies" (This last one means inducing lots of customers to give up on claims which should actually be covered.)

I applied for this job. I didn't get it because I failed the typing test. I intentionally failed the typing test because I did not want the job. I could not say I did not want the job because I'd have lost my unemployment benefits. Everybody wins!!
