2. Did you know...
...that in "Star Trek: First Contact" during the battle with the Borg cube above Earth, for a brief moment you can see the Millennium Falcon? It's true! Those goofballs over at ILM did a lot of the special effects, and they inserted the Millennium Falcon into the background of the battle! Those guys are caraaaazy!

36. The Interweb in the bad ol' daze
Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I install it?

Once you have downloaded, run the file 'twsk40c.exe' and this will begin the installation process. Ensure that you choose to rename other winsock.dll and wsock32.dll files. Choose to 'Save' the changes to your 'autoexec.bat' file. If you do not make these changes then your applications will not be able to find your Internet connection which is established by Trumpet Winsock.

2. Does the Trumpet Winsock v4.0c work under Windows NT?

A new version of the Trumpet Winsock (5.0) has been released which is both NT and IPv6 compatible . Please try the Winsock 5.0 from our Download page. When installing be sure to follow the setup instructions carefully.

3. Is Trumpet Winsock compatible with 32-bit applications?

Many have been tried and tested and proved successful. Note that some applications are written for a specific dialler and will not work with the Trumpet Winsock.

4. I am able to login, but my Internet applications can not find the connection.

Please ensure that the copies of winsock.dll and wsock32.dll in the windows and windows\system directories have been renamed to .old files. Also, check that the path statement (see autoexec.bat) includes the directory containing the Trumpet files.

5. How do I login manually?

From the Slip/PPP tab of the dialler properties, choose Manual Login. Check that your dial up phone number is entered. Initiate a login - either by demand or manually opening the 'Trumpet Winsock Dialler'. The modem will dial and connect. Then control will be moved to the 'Scripter Window'. Enter the responses to the server commands as required e.g., username and password. When your screen starts being filled with nonsense characters, press ESC to enable SLIP/PPP. If you are using SLIP then you will need to enter the IP address into 'SLIP/PPP' tab of the Dialer Properties. Once you have determined your login sequence, you can set up a login script to automate the process. For help with this please see "How do I edit/configure my login script?"

6. How do I make demand loading work?

Use an automatic login or a scripted login with a 'login.cmd' script that completes successfully. Select 'Login/logout on application load/unload' from the 'TCP/IP Settings' tab in the Trumpet Winsock Manager. Ensure that you have no 'winsock.dll' file in the 'c:/windows' directory, and no 'wsock32.dll' file in the 'c:/windows/system' directory. Ensure that there is a reference to your Trumpet directory in your 'autoexec.bat' file.

7. How do I edit/configure my login script?

Scripts can be edited using any text editor (e.g., Notepad). Plese make sure that these are saved with an extension of '.cmd'. Each of the input lines in your login.cmd script will need to be altered according to the messages your server gives and accepts when you login. For example: If the prompt that asks you for your username is "Login:", then you should change, the line defining this input to "input 10 ogin:" Some dial-up servers also prompt for a service after requesting the username and password. If this is the case, then you will need to change the line input 10 ">" from > to suit the prompt you received during login. Then you will need to change the response that you give to this prompt. Currently, it is set to respond PPP or SLIP (depending on which protocol you use to login). You may need to change it, depending on what your server requires. eg output "ppp default"\r. If you are not prompted for a service you will probably need to comment out the lines that select either SLIP or PPP. To comment out these lines, put a '#' (hash) before each one as shown below.

#if %ppp = 1 then
# output ppp\r
#else
# output slip\r
#
# input 10 address is
# address 10
#end

If you need a hand, then please do a manual login, copy the scripter window (by Alt+Shift+PrintScreen), paste this in a mail article, and email it to winsock-support@trumpet.com.au. We will be able to send you a script which should work.

8. How do I change my dial-up phone number?

In the Trumpet Winsock Manager select the 'TCP/IP Settings' tab or in the 'Login' tab of the 'Dialler Properties' in the Trumpet Winsock Dialler.

9. How do I use pulse dialling?

By default Trumpet Winsock uses Tone Dialling. If pulse dialling is required include a 'P' in front of the dial-up phone number.

10. How do I change the modem setup string?

Select 'Configure' from the 'TCP/IP Settings' tab of the Trumpet Winsock Manager; or select Modem Properties by right clicking on the interface of the Trumpet Winsock Dialler. Select the 'Connection' Tab. Click the 'Advanced' button and Enter the modem setup string into the 'Extra Details' field.

11. Can I setup Trumpet Winsock 4.0c for Multiple Internet Service Providers?

It is possible and very simple to do. Right click in the 'Profile' field of the Trumpet Winsock Manager and select 'New'. Choose the appropriate interface (i.e., modem or network)

3. Enter the connection details for the new Internet Service Provider. Once you have configured this, you can simply change profiles by selecting the appropriate profile from the drop down menu of either the Trumpet Winsock Manager or Dialler.

12. How do I configure PAP?

Select 'Automatic Login' from the 'SLIP/PPP' tab in the Dialler Properties. Enter your username, password and dial-up phone number. Login as usual, the PAP negotiation will happen automatically.

13. How to select a profile before starting the Trumpet Winsock Dialler?

A command line option can be used from an icon on your desktop to specify which profile to be used. In the properties of the Icon, set a command line option similar to this: tcpdial.exe -profile=. Note: Use a "~" to represent a space in the profile name.

42. ...
A reliability coefficient is a Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient between two sets of scores as described above. Correlation coefficients range from -1 through 0 to +1, but negative values are not meaningful with respect to reliability. A coefficient of 0 means that there is no relationship between the two sets of scores. A coefficient of 1 would occur if all examinees got the same score on both administrations. A reliability coefficient (signified rxx) may be evaluated (roughly) as follows:

rxx = .90 or higher - High reliability.
Suitable for making a decision about an examinee based on a single test score.

rxx = .80 to .89 - Good reliability.
Suitable for use in evaluating individual examinees if averaged with a small number of other scores of similar reliability.

rxx = .60 to .79 - Low to moderate reliability.
Suitable for evaluating individuals only if averaged with several other scores of similar reliability.

rxx = .40 to .59 - Doubtful reliability.
Should be used only with caution in the evaluation of individual examinees. May be satisfactory for determination of average score differences between groups.
