I did a search on google for anything similar and can't find anything like my idea.

On edit: Maybe I should use more search engines first, to see if I can find one.

I'm thinking of making one and trying to market it but have no idea where or how to start.

Any suggestions?

Start at that link, and then delve further into Google looking for information on patents.

I know several people who have obtained patents...they are a good idea...especially if you have an idea that someone else may want to profit from. :)

4. Without knowing what it is.....I would say

make a prototype. See how well it functions and then work on design efficiency.
When you are satisfied that it is the optimum design, the next step is how to market
what ever it is. If you try to find helpful people as you go along, I'm sure some
with good advice will turn up.
It's a jungle out there. You need to be shown where the vines are.
Good luck and don't give up.
