My Neiman Marcus experience.
Quite frankly, I hate them and therefore have never shopped there. Anyway, Mother's Day trumps personal vendettas, so I slogged over there today to get her gift (only place in town that sells it). I was expecting nothing short of snooty. Snooty clerks, snooty customers.

I had shaved for the event, but in my New Balance cross trainers and lacking a spiffy watch, I felt underdressed. Especially as I walked towards the door while a woman was climbing into a brand new Maserati Quattroporte.

I was very pleasantly surprised. As I staggered around, careful not to break anything I'd have to fork over my car keys to pay to replace, a nice woman dispensing hand cream samples asked if I needed help. She had me follow her to the Chanel counter, where not one but TWO clerks helped me with my purchase.

I committed the faux pas of the day by handing the cashier my debit card. "We don't take Visa." Doh! Obviously, a plebian stood before her. "Of course" I said, acting like I simply just wasn't thinking. With a flourish, I produced my Amex and watched her eyes sparkle. I think we both felt relieved.

Will I be a regular customer? Hell no. However, at least once a year, I'll darken their doorstep to make a purchase for mom.

22. that's weird
They must have an exclusive deal with Amex or Master Card? But, it's very unusual, I think.

16. I think I saw that while shopping
in Chanel last weekend. I live one mile from the store so it's not out of my way at all :) I got my mother a new bag for mother's day and we passed by the case. I wish I had time to test it though but I'm sure it's just as amazing as Chanel's other scents. I currently have the Antaeus, Allure, and Platinum Egoiste scents and all are amazing.

19. Have you tried
the new Allure Sport? I've worn Allure for quite some time, and I bought myself a bottle of it today along with what I got for my mom. They gave me a few samples. It's nice as well.

but I haven't bought a new scent in a long time. I'm fond of Allure among several others, but next time I'm there I'll seek it out.

32. I will do that
I love to go in from time to time and look at the clothes and all the ridiculously small bags lol. The store is always so clean and "perfect" that I always feel a bit under-dressed to be in there because I usually show up looking a bit "distressed" after a long day of meetings, work, etc., and most of the women in the store are usually well dressed and are either stay-at-home moms or wives with nothing better to do :D

Even though I was shopping for mom, I was also looking to buy this:

Unfortunately, they didn't have them. :(

Chanel's beauty department truly has some impressive things. I'll keep an eye out for that scent and the new one coming out this August. :hi:

I have noticed sales people in general are friendlier and more accommodating. I think it has to do with dwindling business.

Staff was nice enough, but the pay was pretty stingy.

They could have sold one pair of shoes, and made back what they payed the trio.

21. My gift for mom this year was turkish bath sheets.
Towels so damned big and thick you could wrap yourself in them from head to foot and get lost. I shipped them to her home but she had UPS redirect them to her office because she's never home. Her coworkers are now all jealous.

I apparently did good. :P

My twin brother is taking her out to dinner. :eyes:

That's what she wanted. I also got her a travel neck pillow because she travels for work monthly...most of it international. My brothers didn't get her anything...yet I'm the bad son. :eyes:

29. It's called customer service
Enjoy it. Nordstrom has the same customer service philosophy. Go the extra step for the customers. They'll even wrap gifts bought at Macy's if you ask. It's a leadership thing from the CEO. Very refreshing, much in the manner of "Miracle on 34th Street." Customer service is still the key.

You're a good son.

34. I stroll by there, Bloomingdale's and Saks maybe once a year for clearance items
I usually buy a couple of good lightweight jackets a year that end up lasting forever and only buy on clearance because that is what I can afford.

The staff at stores like there are usually awesome; instead it's the fuckwad fellow shoppers that make me dread shopping at places like that.

37. I was just walking through a Neiman Marcus once -
It just happened to be between the "mall entrance" and where I was parked, so I was cutting through to get back to the car.

There I was, hair down, no jewelry or purse, sneakers, clean blue-jeans and a nice brown shirt, not "stylish", just comfy. I had just gotten off a 2am - 12pm shift an hour earlier and had wanted to scope out some stores for the weekend shopping trip. Stopped to look at a few clothes in the Junior's section to see what fashions were looking like and to sneer at the prices while I was killing time.
Three different ladies asked me for help - one even wanted me to "check in stock to see if they had this in another size" - during the 10 minutes or so I was loitering. Mind you, there weren't a lot of customers, it was after lunch on a weekday/

There seemed to be enough salespeople on the floor - 2 at the registers and two on the floor in that section - they were just not really where they were supposed to be. Maybe it was just something to do with "after lunch" crowd.

Haele
