Tell me if I have a legitimate gripe or if I'm being a big ol' hypocrite
I work in a three story building on the third floor. We have an elevator, as well as an open stair case right next to the elevator.

A pet peeve of mine is when people use the elevator to go to the second floor. And I'm not talking about handicapped people or people carrying large loads. I'm talking about regular, able bodied folks with nothing in their hands.

However, I use the elevator to go to the third floor. Somehow, I feel as though going up one flight of stairs is good to eschew the elevator, but more than one flight you are free to use the elevator. But I hate when I am in the elevator and have to make a pit stop on the second floor so that some lazy person can get off.

So am I being too harsh and hypocritical? Or do I have a point?

1. I would suggest you take the stairs. It's really good exercise.
I did take the elevator when i worked in Manhattan, though it was on the 14th and 20th floors and the stairwells were alarmed.

2. I actually do take the stairs sometimes
Especially when the elevator is slow.

Other times I just want to get up to the third floor, though.

3. You're being hypocritical
If the "pit stop" is that annoying to you, you should be the one using the stairs (assuming you're physically able, of course).

5. Agreed
it is easy for the 2nd floor people to decide that the 1st floor people are just being lazy. There really isnt that much difference in one floor.

The third floor people probably have the stair walking cutoff point at two floors and are resenting the second floor stop for those lazy second floor people who should be taking the stairs.

4. If you're harsh...
I want to know what I am.

I don't think it's reasonable for you to use the elevator to reach the 3rd floor even...unless you're carrying something, arthritic, disabled, unable to climb that many stairs (in which case someone needs to get some exercise for their own benefit), with a small child, or some other circumstance.

6. I don’t think hypocritical is the right word. You sir, are an elitist!
So the lazy people are making your life difficult? You think you deserve an uninterrupted ride to the third floor? Pretty soon, you will be complaining about sharing the road, I suppose.

Alerting on this obviously freeptard post.

7. I work in a 2 story building, and people take the elevator DOWN!
Sure, some of them might have some hidden gimp, as someone here will eventually point out. But not at the percentage of people that do this, there's just no way that many people are disabled. It's pathetic.

11. Clumsy people like me shouldn't take the stairs down
I can climb stairs all day long, but take a big chance of falling if I take stairs down, especially if I am carrying something.

I am sure I am not the only one like that, but who knows, I could be.

8. I went to a technical high school in downtown Miami, FL.
My home room was on the 11th floor and I would take the stairs because the elevators were always crammed full. But there is no way I could take on 11 flights of stairs now, mainly because I am a smoker. And now whenever an elevator is available, I will take it, whether it be to the second or 10th floors.

9. Even when I work/live in buildings 10 stories or more, I take the stairs.
So, I guess I am the wrong person to ask.

14. Neither but you are being petty
Who made you the elevator police? The elevator is there for people to use to ascend to upper floors. Any upper floors.

Another thing - those people may not look handicapped but they may have a heart condition, arthritis, a bad knee, or some other problem that is invisible but bothersome. Don't be so quick to judge.

If it bothers you so much, take the stairs to the second floor and then get on the elevator.

16. I'm on the 4th floor for school.
I'm usually lugging my huge portfolio, a backpack, and my art supply box. I feel guilty when I take the elevator. I hoof it even though my legs are burning and I'm out of breath when I get to my room. I need the exercise.

17. You could always take the stairs
Good excercise and other people will not be in a position to annoy you.

18. Do you work in my building?
I also work in a three-story building with an elevator near an open staircase. I also take the elevator from the first to the third floor, but I'll usually walk if I have to go up just one floor. It doesn't really bother me when people stop on the second floor, though, because the elevator is so slow that it hardly matters. I don't think it's a real elevator; I suspect there's a guy in the basement turning a crank.
