4. Cucumber slices in water
I know it sounds like a strange combination but the water fills you up and the cucumbers add a nice flavor. It is also very refreshing on a hot day.

5. low-fat instant popcorn
When I'm trying to maintain I pop some and eat it one piece at a time, and drink a lot of water.

note- that's what I do, not what any doctors would suggest I'm sure.

Doctors suggest eating right all the time and exercising every day. Like that's gonna happen!

12. I'm using a diet plan from this website my employer's health insurance program has.
It says I should have 3 meals of between 300-400 calories a day, plus a couple of snacks at around 100-150 calories each, for a total of 1200-1500 calories. I've been sticking to it pretty well, and haven't felt at all deprived before tonight.

15. If you get low fat peanut butter you can eat two! J/K I'd have a real hard
time eating just one spoonful of peanut butter. If it were almond butter it would be different but that is not sweet.

18. Try adding organic apple cider vinegar to your life
Among its many health benefits its supposed to be an appetite suppresant, or at least, regular use is supposed to help you lose weight. One of the two or two of the two.

I didn't know what I was going to eat tonite, as I am way too random in my eating these days but here's what I ended up doing:

chopped up a pile of cilantro
chopped up a half o.g. tomato
chopped up a quarter of a white onion (that had been in the fridge -- they're much better 'frigerated)
mixed on a small plate with a lip on it:

about a scoop of fresh hot white rice
topped it with a torn up slice of havarti cheese
sprinkled some large-flake brewers' yeast on it
dumped some o.g. wheat-free tamari on it
dumped the above pile of raw veggies on it
***AND*** ~!~
added my Special Soaked Sunflower Seeds!

Stir it up and eat it yummers!

__________________________
Here is my new bright idea about sunflower seeds. I used to soak them sometimes (raw) in water before mixing with rice and stuff, it just gives them a bigger, softer crunch (they inflate quite a bit too!)

So yesterday morning I had the bright idea of putting some in a small cup, and instead of adding water, I added (about 1/2 and 1/2?) o.g. tamari and o.g. apple cider vinegar, and 12 or so drops of dark stevia extract. Stir it up with a fork and cover it with a napkin and let it sit overnight.

I just thought I'd throw this up here because in dieting you can come up with creative ways to eat things that are very easy, healthy, and enjoyable, and you don't have to starve yourself. It takes a little pre-planning at the grocery store and a little experimentation (sometimes my experiments have not come out so good!)

19. "nothing tastes as good as being thin feels"
It's such a cliche but it is so true. I lost 50 lbs last year on Weight Watchers and man, buying size 6 pants feels sooooooooooo good!!!

You can do it. Get through the hunger - you will get used to it. Brushing your teeth is a great trick.

:hi:

21. I'm on the South Beach Diet.
Good fats, good protein, lean meat, low fat dairy, veggies, no carbs, no sugars, no starches. No portion counting. That part is Phase 1 which lasts for 2 weeks, after that you add fruits and whole grains to your diet.

Within a few hours, I was full, but not satisfied, because of my sugar cravings. I'm hoping to tame them. I've lost a couple of pounds as well.

23. Ugh, went through that last night
Had a boneless pork chop and salad with low-fat dressing, as did Mr. MG (although he doesn't need to lose weight--we're remodeling and all he did was lift a few 2 x 4s and BOOM went down two pants sizes--I hate men and their metabolism). Anyway, by 8:00 we were both cross-eyed starving. He had a banana. I told my stomach to shut up but I did sneak the last three spoons of MG Jr's cheerios and banana.

I'm supposed to be following a meal plan to keep my blood sugar on an even keel, which means six small meals a day, evenly spaced out, but I'm finding that difficult to do (although I did well on that kind of a diet several years ago).

25. Mine was donuts last night.
And I don't even like donuts.

But when I watch what I eat, my body invariably starts becoming concerned that it might possibly lose a teensy bit of fat and decides to try to sabotage my healthy eating plans by making all sorts of noxious things seem attractive.

I didn't go get any donuts, BTW. I just ignored my body's frantic pleas for sugar and fat and eventually it gave up.

For me slipping from dieting to anorexia, was sssssooooo easy. Sorry, but every time I see a post like this it takes me back to where I was. I was 80 lbs. and yet was convinced I was FAT, FAT,FAT. You don`t need to be skinny, you need to be healthy!

27. I haven't yet really incorporated it heavily into my diet
but have you tried coconut oil? It's not the horrible kind of fat we were led to believe so many years back. In fact, it's better for you than any other kind due to its composition and how it works within the body. Here are a few links to read up on it and get a better idea of how to use it and why:

Coconut Oil: A Low-Calorie Fat By Bruce Fife, N.D.
Coconut Oil and Its Virtues By Ray Peat, PhD
Coconut Diet Diary

I'll have to read these in more detail myself and at least incorporate a couple of tablespoons of coconut oil a day. It's great for stir-fry, though, due to its high smoke-point :)

30. Having something to drink helps sometimes
but don't over do it, don't give in and miss healthy goals but sometimes starving means you need to eat something ! Our bodies do pretty much know what they need and find ways of telling us. ;)

When I saw your thread I remembered our brief exchange about eating meat the other day in the thread asking vegitarians and vegans what set them on that path. And I just thought I'd mention that when I switched to eating so much less meat I actually gained weight. :) A good thing in my case.

I hope your diets works out for you.

36. Fiber and protein
both cause feelings of fullness which last for long periods. Fiber is better because it is mostly indigestable, meaning it has almost no calorific value. You have to watch out for the sugar and high-calorie items often used to make fiber more appealing. Granola, for example, is very high in fiber, but usually contains so much sugar and other goodies (often "crunchy clusters" of some sort or dried fruit) that it's a diet killer in all but the smallest of quantities.

Hunger isn't bad. It's your body telling you that you need to eat. Just eat small and eat slow and don't feel that you have to finish what you're eating once you're no longer hungry. Remember, proper digestion requires energy, energy comes from food. Eating too little will kill your metabolism and cause you to retain weight. Eating a balenced diet will also contribute to weight loss, cravings are often caused by deficiencies, not hunger.
