Why, when I upload a personal avatar and the DU message

says it was done successfully, isn't the avatar image on my posts? There must be something I'm doing wrong, but I don't get why the message says successful???

1. i can see your avatar you might have to re start i had to restart to see

2. Did you tell it you wanted to use your uploaded avatar?

3. Did you change the file name properly in the form?

In Options, it tells you to enter personal/100102.[gif|jpg] in
the box.

This is is a little confusing.  What is means is that you
should enter either personal/100102.gif or
personal/100102.jpg, depending on which is the file type of
your avatar.  

If you didn't make that change, you'll still see your previous
avatar coming up.

4. It takes about 5 minutes for it to kick in...

I was goofing with this last night, and wondered the same thing.

After about 5 mins., there it was.
