http://www.sundaynews.co.zw/inside.aspx?sectid=275&cat=1POLICE in Hwange are on the look out for a suspect who killed a crocodile and removed its brains amid revelations that it could be used for poisoining unsuspecting individuals, it has been learnt.
The Hwange Colliery Company’s Risk and Control department which comprises the coal mining giant’s security personel has called upon residents to promptly report any cases of food poisoning or any person found in position of crocodile brains.
The crocodile was killed at a dam in Madumabisa compound and only its brains were found missing.
“A crocodile was killed at number Four Dam and had its brains removed. Anyone with symptoms of food poisoning is advised to report to the nearest clinic or dressing station. Please report anyone found in possesion of the crocodile brains to the ZRP or the nearest village control office or phone,” read part of a notice written by the risk and audit control department.
It is however, not clear if the reptile’s brain were extracted for some rituals purposes or for the intention of poisoning people.
In Southern Africa crocodile brain is regarded as highly toxic and in some rural cultures it is said to be used by some unscrupulous individuals to lace foodstuffs with the intention of killing their victims.
In Zimbabwe many beer drinkers have lost their lives through binging alcohol that would have been laced with crocodile brains by their enemies.
