Who has seen The Whale Rider?

Good movie; KCDem and I rented it this weekend.

1. Wonderful Movie!

The sort of movie that should be made but which Hollywood obviously won't make--no sex, no violence, a cast of real people. The pacing will be too slow for people addicted to the slam bam cutting that is now so pervasive , and there is no use of high tech camera tricks.

It's a great movie for older children too--the themes of cultural preservation, (Maori culture) courage and, best of all , the fact girls can be heroes, make it the kind of movie that should be made more often. The movie was shot in New Zealand and is cinematically beautiful. The little girl who has the lead role is wonderful as are the secondary actors. No commercialized sexiness or fake acting, just a cast of highly believable humans.
