Thanks for posting. It was the highlight of my very frantic day.

The Girl with the Flaxen Hair on the guitar:

Debussy was my favorite composer during most of my teenage years.

5. Let's see... Claire de Lune, Fountains of Rome, Pines of Rome, Nuages, what am I forgetting?
Thanks G of G. They were always helpful in getting rid of stress -- and those melodies soothed my two babies as well. Along with mobiles and musicboxes that played Brahms' Lullabye.

Peace, love and happiness,

6. Fountains and Pines of Rome were written by Respighi...
La Mer, Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, Danse Sacre et Profane, and a divine string quartet are among Debussy's works. I love them all!

7. Ah, ha! You're absolutely right. Do you like Respighi? Do you teach music?
My mind isn't what it used to be. Thanks for the correction.

La Mer, of course, is gorgeous. Barely remember Danse Sacre... and I can't place the string quartet. I'd have to hear it to be sure.

KBPS, 89.9 FM, Portland's public broadcasting and non-commercial radio station at www.allclassical.org is the favorite on my radio dial. When the progressives get nasty (all too often these days), that's where you find me.

Thanks for the dialogue, sweetie.

Cordially,

9. I enjoy Respighi too
Especially the Ancient Airs and Dances and The Birds!

I remember when you posted the link to that station. I bookmarked it, and often enjoy listening to it when I'm on the computer. :D

8. Oh, I see you're a freelance violinist. My dad played the violin...
Edited on Thu Apr-17-08 03:16 PM by Radio_Lady
very badly and with utter disregard for whomever was near him!

He played in the hospital until the nurses finally convinced him to stop!

He took up the violin at age 4 and even took lessons later in life. I remember he liked to play gypsy music...My mother's family were Hungarian Jews and perhaps he learned the melodies -- I don't know how.

Have a wonderful weekend, when we get there.

Cordially,

Radio Lady

10. LOL...I've known a few folks like that...
Years ago, there was a man who played the violin with a community orchestra where I played concertmaster. The poor guy really thought he was something, and was forever bragging about himself or arguing with me about how to execute a certain passage. He seemed to suffer from significant hearing loss, which would account for a lot of things.

I'll never forget once, when the conductor stopped the orchestra to rehearse something, this violinist kept right on playing, but it sounded like no violin I have ever heard before. I had to turn around and look, because the sound was akin to nuts and bolts falling off a metal shelf. You know you're special when you can make your violin clatter like a hardware store!

11. Well, clearly that violinist must march to a different drummer!
