I just watched The Boondock Saints
Edited on Wed Apr-16-08 06:21 PM by WildEyedLiberal
Well that's two hours of my life I'll never have back. God, what an atrocious piece of poorly-written hackery. I AM Irish Catholic, and I love Boston, so in theory, I should love this movie. I tried to like it. I tried to ignore the bad acting, the cliche-ridden script, and the pointless interludes (Rocco? WTF?). But the more I tried, the more I hated it.

Can someone please explain to me why this movie is a cult classic?

1. I didn't like it either.
Just didn't think it was very interesting. I fell asleep at parts and then watched it again. Nothing. I thought it was very boring.

2. The Documentary about the whole Boondock saints project was way better.
i know it sounds weird but wow---the ego that Troy Duffy has/had, not to be missed.

3. Because it echoes with a certain portion of the population:
those that hear about terrible shit happening and think "Somebody should do something about that shit." It used to be one of my favorite movies, but I matured and it stayed juvenile.

5. In theory, it should be good
I like well-done vigilante movies, and I also like pseudo-religious overtones. Had the movie managed to skillfully incorporate the two into a thought-provoking philosophical treatise on the nature of sin, vengeance, and justice, I would've LOVED it.

Unfortunately, "thought-provoking" and "The Boondock Saints" are two phrases which do not belong in the same sentence without a very, very strong negative qualifier.

8. Yeah, the courtroom scene was easily the best part of the movie
You had to wade through a LOT of dreck to get to that point, unfortunately.

9. Willem Dafoe.
Anybody...?

I liked it, but I do waste a lotta time staring out the window, so two hours I'll never miss. ;)
