I was getting dressed at a hotel in Taos, NM to play a New year's Eve show when we heard about the plane crash on the radio. We rocked the crowd that night ( 7 piece R&B with horns), but with a sadness in my heart at the same time. Absolutely an underrated artist. Finally did get to do rockabilly off and on from the late eighties to early 2000's ( have done mostly blues, soul and 60's rock over the years) . Was always bummed that I couldn't get either of the rockabilly bands to learn Lonesome Town...

11. I've seen Wayne Hancock live about 3 or 4 times

and he's all about the geetars. he's an ex-Marine, fwiw, based in Austin, TX. one of the space shuttle crews woke up to his "That's What Daddy Wants" (with a reveille at the start.)

He's also a very nice. guy.
