Tell me what song gets you "in the mood".
I want to make up a CD of mood music, for....well....you know. ;)

I'm tired of gettin' into it while a good song is playing, only to have it interrupted by a McDonald's commercial break.

Give me your suggestions, please!

1. Almost anything by Barry White!
Let's Get it On by Marvin Gaye
or
Feel's So Right by Alabama

Whisper to me softly three words upon my skin.
No ones near and listenin, so please dont say goodbye.
Just hold me close and love me.
Press your lips to mine.
Mm, feels so right, feels so right.

Lying here beside you, I hear the echoes of your sighs.
Promise me youll stay with me and keep warm tonight.
So hold me close and love me.
Give my heart a smile.
Mm, feels so right, feels so right.

Your body feels so gentle and my passion rises high.
Youre lovin me so easy.
Your wish is my command.
Just hold me close and love me.
Tell me it wont end.
Mm, feels so right, feels so right, feels so right.

Aw, you feel so right baby.

have "Let's Get It On" on my list. :)

Don't know if I know the other song - I'm gonna YouTube it to listen. Thanks!

4. Depends on associations with the person I'm with, really.
I had one ex who only really listened to rock, and so that's what made me think of her and therefore got me thinking about... well, y'know. :P

On the other hand, the last person I was interested in was a classical musician like myself, so I'd imagine if we'd actually had a chance to date (unfortunately she moved 300 miles away shortly after I met her) the music that would have made me think of that sort of thing with her would have been of a classical nature.

I pretty much had to send him an engraved invitation "hi, you're hot, and I flew all this way, can we go have sex now?" because he's that fucking oblivious to any flirting that doesn't involve me taking my shirt off.

I learned my lesson. From now on I'm going to skip looks and tone of voice and just throw my shirt at his head. :P

21. Astor Piazzolla / Zero Hour Tangos
It's without a doubt to sexiest music ever written. If you aren't familiar with Piazzolla, he "reinvented" the tango in the 1950's-1960's. He's also the best damn bandoneon player I've ever heard. Here are the liner notes from Zero Hour.

"Strip to your underwear if you're not in black tie. Get obscene if you want, but never casual. You feel an urge? Touch its pain, wrap yourself around it. Don't put on airs. What you seem must be what you are, and what you are is a mess, honey, but that's okay, as long as you wear it inside. Look sharp! Don't slouch. See anyone slouching here? Stay poised, taut, on guard. Listen to your nerves. It's zero hour. Anxiety encroaches, wave after wave, with every squeeze of the bandoneon. Already twisted by the contraposto of uprightness and savagery, this new tango turns the screw even tighter with its jazz dissonances and truncated phrasings. No relief. No quarter. At zero hour only passion can save you. Time is flowing backward and forward into the vortex. From the rooms come a warm air and a choked melody of syncopated gasps. Something throbs. A vein under your skin. It's inside you now, this bordello virus, this pleasure that tastes so much of anger and grief. When you find pools of pure, sweet light, bathe in their waters, balm for your lacerations. For the whiplash scars the bandoneon is leaving on your soul. If this were the old milonga of the slums, or those popular songs about painted faces and purloined love, you could let distance sketch a smile on your lips. Cheap irony. You won't get away that easy. This music is for you. It always had you in mind, your habits, your twitches, the tiny blood vessels bursting inside you when you hide what you feel. So walk in the parlor, bring your friend or come alone. Come hear the master as he unravels the wind inside the box, as he presses the growling tiger that threatens to embrace him and shapes the beast into a purring kitten. And tiger again. And kitten. It's all a game. You're going to play it too, you're going to dance with the tiger. Don't worry, your life is in danger. Remember your instructions. Listen up. And suffer, motherfucker, this is the tango".

22. Commander Venus...
though I can't pick one song as the best for this sort of thing, maybe "We'll Always Have Paris." or "Do You Feel At Home?".

It's amazing that Commander Venus' lyrics are as adult as they are considering that Conor Oberst and Tim Kasher (the two singers) were only 14 when CV released its' first CD and 17 when they broke up. Conor went on as solo artist under the name Bright Eyes and Tim fronts Cursive.

When I was 14 I was chasing girls, not releasing critically-acclaimed albums.

27. that also depends on what music you like...
and... there are all sorts of different moods of "in the mood," right? I make all sorts of mixes because I get tired of hearing the same things all the time...

I made a mix that I called "Rainy Day" but my male friend told me it's a "well...you know" mix (but then again, see below for male comments?) I've made a lot different variations on this one, but all these songs work for me.

I'd be happy to send you a copy if you want, but I think most of these are available on iTunes, if you have that.

Song Artist CD

Alice Tom Waits Alice
Flesh and Blood -Solomon Burke- Don't Give Up On Me
Look For Me Neko Case Blacklisted

Sleepwalk -Brian Setzer Orchestra- Dirty Boogie
I Wish I Was the Moon -Neko Case- Blacklisted
Cause We've Ended As Lovers -Jeff Blow- Blow by Blow

Sweet Little Angel -B.B. King- Classic Masters
Baby Please Don't Leave -Buddy Guy- Sweet Tea
Baby What You Want Me To Do - Etta James - Etta James Rocks The House, Live, Nashville, Tn. 1963 (this is one my my TREASURE cds. Etta doing hard blues.)

Stay All Night - Buddy Guy - Sweet Tea (I LOVE this cd... hot electric blues)
Red House - Jimi Hendrix- Jimi Blues
Call It Story Monday -Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughn- In Session

Blues To Elvin -John Coltrane- Coltrane Plays the Blues
Dog - Diego Sandrin - Paste Music Sampler #14 (I get this mag and it has a cd of new songs every month. great!! -of course not all are to my taste... but great way to hear new stuff. This IS available on iTunes, tho.)
My Fair, My Dark - Ida - Believer 25th Issue (another mag with a music sampler edition)

Northern Sky - Nick Drake-
All Is Full Of Love - Bjork- Homogenic
Green Arrow -Yo La Tengo- I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One

If you or your partner do not like hard electric blues, you will not like the 3rd and 4th parts of tis compilation. The end of the mix, however, gets downright ethereal. I don't love all things Bjork, but I think All Is Full Of Love is one of the most beautiful pop songs ever. Green Arrow is crickets and slow electric, for the most part.

31. Be Your Baby Tonight
I'll Be Your Baby Tonight --Linda Ronstadt

Written by Bob Dylan

Close your eyes close the door
You don't have to worry anymore
I'll be your baby tonight

Shut the light shut the shade
You don't have to be afraid
I'll be your baby tonight

Well that mockingbird is gonna sail away
We're gonna forget it
Well that big fat moon is gonna shine like a spoon
But we're gonna let it
You won't regret it

Kick your shoes off do not fear
Bring that bottle over here
I'll be your baby tonight

Well that mockingbird is gonna sail away
We're gonna forget it
Well that big fat moon is gonna shine like a spoon
But we're gonna let it
You won't regret it

Kick your shoes off do not fear
Bring that bottle over here
I'll be your baby tonight
