Say something thoughful, mushy and profound about 1 DUer who's impacted you in the last month
My mushy praise post goes out to madfloridian.

Let me tell you a backstory. If you look at my profile, you'll see my story about first coming to DU under another name many years ago. No, no... no banning story here. Instead I was young and stupid, and pulled a "I'm leaving DU because everyone else has a problem but me" move and left for a long time. People keep asking me what my user name was, but I had just started exploring the wonderful world of internet forums and I had so many different logins I'm not sure. It might have been Tillich (after Paul Tillich). Since then I have learned to use the same screen name everywhere.

One thing I do remember from back then is that I treated madfloridian crappy. I don't remember why, I just know that I argued with her and always made it personal, never listened, and just drowned out anything she was trying to say under a wall of self-absorbed pseudo-intellectual text.

Then I came back.....erm...whatever month it says in my profile. And I have had the privilege of reading numerous posts from madfloridian. On many subjects. But on one in particular - her explanation, attention to, and description of things going on in Florida during this nomination process is simply pure gold. And even when she (she right? In my mind I hear a female voice when reading) is talking about other things, I've found her to be incredibly insightful, fairly even tempered and rational. Finding her posts again was a wonderful experience for me, because it showed me how much I've grown as person, and how foolish I was in years past.

So mad, here's to you for some brilliant writing that is thoroughly delightful to read. You're a class act. :toast:

Someone else go! :)

1. My dear Political Heretic...
How can I pick just one?

I have a number of friends here who are terrific to me!

I don't want to embarrass anyone...or leave anyone out...

Sorry...

But I didn't want to let your lovely thread sink with zero responses...

2. For me it's emilyg.
A staunch supporter of Hillary, who isn't even close to my choice (Obama isn't really either), and someone I took for just another follower of her choice, and someone who I thought just shut out those views that didn't agree with her.

During the last fundraiser I lost my star for a few days and couldn't afford to donate, being so broke I can't even change my mind. But I noticed one day my star was back. I wondered who it was, thinking it was one of the same people who have donated for me in the past (You like me..you really like me!). In a thread here in the Lounge I thanked whoever my anonymous donor was, and it turned out to be emily. To say it blew my mind is an understatement, and it opened my eyes to my own bias and judging of people for the very thing I thought she was guilty of. I don't even think I had said or done anything nice to her. Probably the opposite.

It has stuck in my mind since then, and it's the coolest thing that's happened to me on DU in a long time. She's taught me a lesson about how I'm guilty of seeing people through my own biased view, and I've tried (not always successfully) to keep that in my mind since then.

Just this last week she has done something that I won't say as it was in private, but it's something that is beyond nice, and the reasons for her kindness are grounded in something deeply touching and personal.

The fact that we don't see eye to eye on candidates, or always share the same views, means nothing to me. She is one special person, and that goes far deeper than anything we all talk about here on DU.

4. Not The Last Month, But Gotta Be OMC
I have much the same story as you except I didn't post much back then (mainly because I agreed with most of the posts and didn't feel a need to while there were so many other forums that needed my words of wisdom).

On coming back, I read some of OMC's posts and while agreeing with him on some thought he was quite full of himself. His heart-wrenching personal posts while his wife went through her cancer diagnosis and treatments, soon had my rapt attention (and prayers). Though we have had differences on candidates since then (and yes, I have been the brunt of his scathing wit), I seldom forget his poignant posts and remember that all of us we here have a lot more in common than we disagree on.

I am very thankful for DU and enjoy even the differences in opinion here, although I must admit this primary has been tough.

8. HEy-HEy
touched me in a bad way, then puked on my cat.

But when he sobered up, his apology appeared to be sincere.

12. I'm changing my registration back to Democrat because stimbox
introduced me to the lady who is running against Nancy Pelosi in the primary. And that's after 7 years of protesting that the Senate didn't stand with the CBC.

(I met her last night and she was adorable AND awesome.)

Thanks, stimbox.
