5. And for those who not-unreasonably wonder about such
spelling differences:

Written Arabic only represents consonants, so muslim/moslem is really written 'mslm', and the vowel sounds are supplied by the speaker's local dialect.

(The same is true of Yiddish--written using Hebrew characters--which is why there's such a fascinating variety of pronunciations in Leo Rosten's 'Hyman Kaplan' stories.)
