...waiting for me on the kitchen counter when I get home.

What do you have waiting for you when you get home this evening?

1. Is it an Islay or a Highland single malt?
just curious, as I'm a scotch afficionado myself.

But this weekend I'm sticking to beer. Found a nice little Scottish-brewed ale called Traquair House, and I'm looking to sip on a few of those tonight.

Speyburn is some good stuff!
Edited on Fri Mar-28-08 03:36 PM by Hardhead
I'm not much for liquor, but my stepdad turned me onto some Speyburn, and I love that smokey flavor.

9. I've been drinking it for several years now.
The liquor store down the street from me has it for $19.95 a bottle. That's a pretty good deal! (I hope the weakening dollar doesn't drive the price up...:()

10. Good price! Too bad you don't have Trader Joe's in KS...
I picked up a bottle of 18yo MacAllan there for about $40. Cheap at twice the price!

18. Have you tried Lagavulan?

It has a kind of smokey-peaty flavor. I haven't had it for years, because it's about $70 a bottle...:(

But I like Speyburn...:)

20. Lagavulin is good, but I prefer the Highland singles...
Sometimes the Islays just taste a bit too medicinal for me.

3. Just curious...
How do you drink your scotch?

I've been chastised on DU before for drinking it with ice. So I switched to "neat" and enjoy it that way too!

8. I think ice changes the flavors too much by chilling the scotch...
But if you want to dilute it a bit, a little spring water works nicely, and won't get any scotch-snobs looking daggers at you for it.

22. I drink Johnny Walker Black
I drink it on the rocks. Neat, ice, club soda, or water is fine with me: if you want to mix with gingerale or coke, go waste some Canadian whiskey and leave Scotland out of it.

I drink it because I love it and not to impress anyone.

They say Scotch is an accquired taste. I accquired it on the first swig.

I appreciate single malt, but I prefer Johnny Black

27. I used to tend bar, and Johnny Walker Black was popular!
To make sure we offered the best, I would take a sip now and then to make sure it hadn't "gone bad." ;)

I'm working on a story called "The Mascot" & she LOVES to get in my face when I'm concentrating. I can't imagine having more than one. I have flirted with the idea, though.

28. I really should get pics of my cats...
Callie does something we've come to call "jump-nudging." When she's hungry and you bend over to pet her, she'll meet your hand halfway, rearing up on her hind legs and "nudging" your hand. She sometimes does this several times. She only does this when she's hungry.

I can find out if my kids are fibbing when I ask them if they fed the cats. If they say "yes" and Callie "jump-nudges" me, then I know they are not being honest with me...:D

Edited on Fri Mar-28-08 04:07 PM by Sugar Smack
She lifts her front paws off the floor to rub her cheek on my hand. She also "proffers" her cheek when I kiss her on the face. You *NEED* to get pictures of your cats up! :D

I have Monday and Tuesday off and will be with my two cats all day. Although they'll probably sleep most of the day, I love to watch them play-fight with each other.

I'm remodeling my bathroom right now, and "the mess" has been with us for quite awhile (the project is taking much longer than anticipated).

But that continues tomorrow. Tonight, it's scotch and jazz!
