Ow. Cat claws. Ow.
So my familiar, "Grace" (actually Jasmine, but she's due for a name change after this), just fell off my chair and used my arm kinda like that annoying cat poster...you know...

Finally extricated her from my flesh. So when does the blood start spurting?

I adore Clancy - got him from the pound 10 years ago as a kitten and he has been a faithful friend - the little guy has moved with me five times! :D

6. He looks like he's quite a handful!
There's scheming going on behind those eyes, no question!

Don't you just love black kitties? We have two, both former strays. I wish I had a pic of Jasmine to post. We adopted her from a local vet who "shows" kitties at PetSmart. She's actually very sweet, tenterhooks notwithstanding, and makes a great familiar, although she's a bit of an airhead. Which would explain the falling off the chair thing...

I have two black cats, a little over a year old now.

I love that photo! Yep, there's some scheming going on there.

I have just the girlfriend for him -- my Brigid, who looks just like him. :)

Thanks for the smile. I needed one after what I just saw on CNN. :grr:

4. OMG I have never heard of those!
And in lots of colors, too! That is genius!

One question: How do you get 'em on resistant critters? And do they stay on?

22. They come with tubes of glue
Be sure you wear gloves, because that stuff will stick on your fingers like nobody's business! You just put some glue into each cap and gently press your cat's paw to extend the claws, then put them on. I always press gently to make sure they stay on. Then you try to hold the cat for 5 minutes (or at least observe kitty) and make sure he/she doesn't lick off any glue that might be on the outside of the Soft Paws.

I have used them on Morrissey and Sunflower, who is an 8-month-old extremely rowdy kitten. At first they won't like it and will wiggle, so you have to be patient. Try to put them on when the cat is sleepy - that helps a lot. They will lick and chew at their paws for a few minutes - I always play with them by dangling something so they get distracted. Soon they forget they have them on.

One trick I use is to fill all 10 caps (you just need to put them on the front paws) with the glue before getting started and have them close at hand. Then if kitty struggles you can get through them all faster.

They will stay on (unless your cat manages to chew them off) for several weeks. Sometimes you don't get enough glue in there and they fall off early. They also fall off as the cat's claws grow out. You can remove them if you need to, as well.

I just put Sunny's on on Friday and it's so wonderful! He likes to play bite and clamp onto my arm with those sharp needle claws, and now he can't hurt me anymore!

I am in no way affiliated with Soft Paws - I just know they work!

14. it's not so much adopting as being adopted upon...
i live way out in the country. the closest city shelter started charging to drop off animals, so a lot of folks just drive their unwanted pets out here and drive away. its so sad, so many die. three dogs and two kitties have found their way to me in various stages of distress.

they are all welcome. my cabin is a mess, but so far everybody is getting along.

my boyfriend lives on a farm......we recently took a brother and sister tuxedo couple to the vet to be fixed - that makes seven cats total out there.....there seems to be an endless supply.

Here are the tuxedoes, born under the patio deck (we got their mom fixed too, earlier; she was a stray):

16. oh, so pretty...
i love kitties. you are so kind.

unfortunately my rescues are usually near death. the last little female dog, trixie, showed up like this...

she slept for two solid weeks. i had to force all food and water into her during that time. she would only awake and move to have explosive diarrhea all over my new kitchen tile. fun times. but she survived and is the sweetest puppy ever (and the complete ruler over her two male 70+ pound brother pups!)

this is a terrible pic of her now. she always has such a beautiful smile on her face. always.

i love her so...

17. Second photo
Is she a cross between a beagle and a pug?
That cross breed is a designer cross breed and called a bugle. If so, I'm thinking the prior owner probably paid good money for her or the breeder could not unload and let her starve.

25. the vet said she's a boxer/beagle mix...
she had a litter after she was dumped. a neighbor a mile away found her in a barn with dead pups but trixie ran off. a week later i saw her walking down the road. i'd never seen an animal that thin.

i drove her to the vet and they had seen an exact copy of her that someone rescued two weeks earlier. water is plentiful here, but no one leaves anything edible out. i don't know how she made it so long on her own.

she's one tough cookie.

wow, she is unbelievably cute - just awesome. I guess we are lucky in the sense that the animals we see seem to be in fairly good shape, like they haven't been out there long. We try to do something about them all. It is hard - I cannot understand the cruelty of people who neglect/abandon their pets or the idiots who do not spay or neuter. MAKES ME STEAMING MAD.

I'm so glad she's happy, healthy and had some weight on her now. I'm very glad you had the will and patience to do so much for her.

27. hey, i'm no hero...
i don't want anyone here to think that. i had neither the will nor the patience to help her through it. i had never helped any animal that bad off before.

i searched online and found an obscure forum with discussion tread and found the will and the patience in a wonderful woman who's name i don't even know.

"find something, anything she will eat. try anything and everything. force it in her mouth", "shoot the water into her mouth with the syringe", "do this", "do that"... i was good for 2 or 3 days but it was clear to me trixie just wanted to sleep and never wake up. i thought i was being cruel by dragging her little body out of the crate every few hours and trying to force her survive. i was ready to give up after a week. and then there were the multiple doses of whipworm medicine each day and the cream i had to smear in trixie's eyes every few hours so the deep ocular ulcers she had wouldn't leave her blind.

we talked online every day. every time i would ask my online friend if i could just stop all of this and let trixie just die like she seemed to want, the answer was always the same: "shut up, stop your blubbering and just do it."

and then on day 14 trixie just got up and decided she wanted to live. it was just like that. six months later she is fat (relatively) and loud and bossy and queen of the cabin. i love every minute of her. her beautiful eyes both work just fine and can look right through you. and melt your heart.

i just followed the orders of a woman i will never know. you need to give hugs to her.

Hugs, to you for adopting that kitten.

The story of the dog has me in tears. For every scumbag that drops off an animal in the country, there is a person like that online who will extend her or himself to get that little animal soul back on its feet.

That baby will be your soulmate forever.

21. Thanks. It was a clean puncture.
I never did recreate the Black Knight scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, thank goodness. Neosporin is my friend. (Several years ago our male kitteh mistook my hand for an invader cat--long story--and he sank his teeth and claws deep into the fleshy part of my hand and wrist before he realized what he was doing and took off to hide. Got cat scratch fever from that--NOT fun. I've been vigilant about infections ever since.)
