It's been 48 hours since I've had a cigarette.
Today was easier than yesterday, to be sure, but I'm still getting urges. I find that they usually subside after 10-20 minutes.

has anyone else quit smoking recently?

4. I tried the nicotine lozenges during my last quitting attempt...
this time I'm trying the cold turkey method...

5. The patch doesn't taste like shit like the lozenges
And it gets you used to a constant nicotine supply, which in itself will make you less moody

And since nicotine isn't dangerous within itself, its all the delivery method, you can stay on the patch indefinitely

And after 1 day, I was dying. I bought a pack of patches, put one on and....WHAMMO - I was complete again.

for about an hour. Then I made coffee and braved the cold and
headed to the store to buy more. Congratulations! Hang in there!

17. I quit about an hour ago
Now I'm going to break down and have one when I go walk the dog. I'll finish this pack, and then the unopened pack that I bought with it, but after that, if I want to smoke, I'm going to have to go buy more cigarettes. Man, smoking rules.

3. 12 years ago last Saturday
I remember because it was the two year anniversary of my last drink. I am afraid you will have urges for years but they will become weaker and farther apart. Just keep reminding yourself that you have done one of the most difficult things that anyone has ever had to do and you are through the worst part already. Every day gets easier as you get HEALTHIER! Keep up the good work!:yourock:

congrats on that. and thanks for the encouragement; knowing that it's possible to quit and stay quit, as you have, is a comfort.

11. Yes it is possible and, as I said. You have been through the worst part already
I always told myself that and, when I realized that I would have to quit eventually, I was resolved to never go through the first days of quitting again. I am also happy to report that I almost never get urges these days. If you ever need encouragement, send me a PM. I'm on this board every day. :)

15. Good luck to you!
I quit March 26, 2001. Cold turkey.

I'd had some minor oral surgery planned for that day, and that became a fixed date in my mind.

Didn't have many cravings after the first couple of days, so hang in there. It was easier than I thought, after over 20 years.

Funny (maybe), but I still smoke in my dreams.

Holler if you need support.

20. stopped smoking in 82
every once in a while i think i`d like to have a cigarette but i catch myself. one thing you have to remember is that if you ever have a medical problem in the future recovery will be do much faster if you have`t smoked. my heart doctors smile when i tell them i have`t smoked since 82.

no matter what, do not start again...just think of how your body will feel without the poisons and how much money you will be saving...one pack a day adds up to well over a thousand dollars a year!

30. I haven't smoked since Nov. 17th, 2007...
I've learned I am stronger than the urges. When I'm not, I turn into a raving lunatic around the house. Kids hide. They know it will pass and it alwasy does.

I refuse to fail. So far, I haven't. :)

Keep it up. You'll get there.

"I Will Survive" is a great song to listen to when the cravings hit. That and some food.

Good luck!

32. I quit smoking about 1990
Here is my advice. Get one of those sports bottles with a straw-like opening. Keep it with you at all times filled with either water or your favorite low calorie beverage. Every time you want a drag, swig some beverage. Yes, you will have to piss every 5 min, but you are simultaneously feeding the oral fixation and cleansing your system.

Best of luck.

37. It will probably be the hardest thing you'll do in you entire life
I am on my third quit. It has been almost four years.

You have to adjust all your daily activities without them-my biggest one was the smoke after eating, and the morning three with coffee.

The addiction additives are shit that the RW-owned companies put it just to get you hooked and kill you a lot sooner than you should. That's another way you can beat it: have a little resentment about al;l the shit behind it. It may seem unhealthy to some but in the end you'll avoid ending up like some of my residents with COPD-as young as 50 that came here to die.

Also: get yourself a membership at the YMCA, or some other fitness center. Build up your general health-cardiac, respiratory, etc. Oh yeah, to also alleviate the weight gain fears. Find out what your aerobic ceiling is-if you get access to one of those machines (treadmill, eliptical, etc.) get your heart rate and stay there for a while. A staff member at one of these places should be able to assist you.

Good luck!
