Where's the best place to live?

3. I think that very much depends

on such factors as what you like to do, what you intend to do for a living and whether their are specific climate factors in which you'll do better or worse healthwise.

You like skiing? Don't move to Nebraska.

You hope to do groundbreaking work in the computer industry? Choose a place like Silicon Valley in California or Redmond, Washington. Some place with like minded individuals already well trained and versed in the field.

You drop into a depression during extended periods of rain and overcast weather. Seattle is maybe not for you.

5. I wouldn't say Washington D.C.

I used to live there...28 years of my life was spent there...it was the most miserable place to live. The traffic is unbearable, the humidity is off the charts.
Not to mention you have to find a place to live, do you plan on living downtown, if so I hope you have a good job secured already, because you will be paying out the ass for a one bedroom apartment.

It's a nice place to visit...but I would really do your homework before you decide to live there.

I am thinking the moon is a great place to live...that way if * decides to blow up the world I'll have a good seat to watch it from.

I was raised on the cold and frozen tundras of northen minnesota and I think that cold weather is a nice change after a hot summer

I travel aroud the us and europe a fair amount, and i think that Iceland or Glasgow would be the best places to live, both have nice people and beautiful mountains. Iceland has hot springs too.

Norway's on a bit of a right-wing fling at the moment, but it's probably temporary. Finland has sorted out its economic woes (with a lot of help from Nokia). Sweden has a good diverse economy.

Most people have English as their second (or first) language.

culture? weather? low housing prices? good job opportunities? beautiful natural surroundings? liberal political climate? good social services? no traffic? friendly people? peace and quiet? hustle and bustle? urban? rural?

You won't find all those attributes anywhere, so you have to define what matters to you. Then maybe people can advise you (mostly by either boosting or bashing their own area).

I live near Santa Barbara, California, and it's great...

But if I had to relocate anywhere in the US, I'd definitely be leaning towards Boston. I went there for the first time in my life a few weeks ago on a 2 day deal, and I *REALLY* liked it. It had the college town atmosphere (maybe 'cuz there are like 200000 universities there), but still a semi-big city feel. Lots of walking. Lots of cool stores. Lots of diversity. Lots of political awareness. I don't know there was just something about it that really struck me as wonderful. Listening to Noam Chomsky speak didn't hurt none either.

PLUS you've got the JFK library and Museum. :)
