Speaking of slapstick...sort of...
My daughter got exposed to the comic genius that was Laurel and Hardy on Saturday. She got to see "The Music Box" and "Sons of the Desert".

1. Oh, how terrific!
I remember vividly the first time I saw one of their movies...

We had assemblies when I was in the sixth grade...

After I moved to California...

And my very first assembly was one of their movies...

I remember all the other kids ooohing in anticipation when the screen lit up...

And I wondered what the fuss was about...

They were amazing!

I'll bet she loved those movies!

2. When I was little mom would check out a projector from the library and we would watch some movies.
We often got Buster Keaton's "The General" and also the Laurel and Hardy episode where they move the piano up the steps.

Mom liked to amuse us by running the film backwards so we could see the piano fall up the steps. Or even better, in the scene of General where the locomotive causes a burning bridge to collapse under it, we'd watch the bridge jump up.

Even after VCR came along, the picture wasn't as sharp in rewind and the projector was cool.
