Director Anthony Minghella dies
Man, "The Talented Mr. Ripley" was a good film.

Very talented director. This is sad news.

3. Very sad, very untimely.
The New York Times obit doesn't list a cause of death, either, so perhaps it was sudden (or not; it's possible he was ill). No matter what, I am very sorry that the film world has lost this talent.

4. Complication from an operation for a growth
He had an operation for a growth in his neck last week and the operation seemed to have gone well. But he had a fatal haemorrhage at 0500 GMT on Tuesday.

5. Holy crap.
Like lots of people, I thought that The English Patient was overrated, but I loved Truly, Madly, Deeply. He was a talented guy.
