Poles & Italians--don't forget to wear red tomorrow!
It's St. Joseph's Day. He's the patron saint of both Poland and Italy, so it's the wearin' o' the red tomorrow!

5. Sfingi is a sotr of Italian pastry - little wet wads of dough get put into hot oil
and puff up. Some fill them with a cream, others sprinkle with powdered sugar. They have a very distinct almost bitter taste, in my experience, but they're traditional.

What is the name of that Italian pastry? My boss used to bring them in on St. Joseph's Day many years ago. They were damn good!

8. We used to have Sfingi on St Joseph's day. Don't know if that's why you had.

it was pastry with cream inside. For some reason I thought it was called something else. The pastry place near the prison where I was working only offered them around this time.

12. I never knew them to be a St Joseph's day food - but any day that includes cannoli is a good one!
