$12000 engagement ring floats away in balloon
LONDON (Reuters) - It is the one moment every man wants to get right -- and which London floor-fitter Lefkos Hajji could hardly have got more wrong.

The luckless 28 year-old's dreams of giving his sweetheart, Leanne, 26, the ultimate proposal have literally vanished into thin air.

Hajji, of Hackney, east London, had concealed a $12,000 engagement ring inside a helium balloon. The idea was that she would pop the balloon as he popped the question.

But as he left the shop, a gust of wind pulled the balloon from his hand and he watched the ring -- and quite possibly the affections of his girlfriend -- sailing away over the rooftops.

---

"But I had to tell her the story -- she went absolutely mad. Now she is refusing to speak to me until I get her a new ring."

1. Wow - it's a good thing that ring floated away. Pricey, yes, but at least he knows she's a ****.
I'd call that a soul-crushing, but ultimately very inexpensive lesson that the shrew whore bitch he was about to marry isn't worth a pile of shit.

$12,000 now to avoid hundreds of thousands later?

I'd call that good value.

$12k seems a small price to pay to find out before the wedding.

7. Sometimes things get fucked up, especially, I've noticed,
if I spend a long time typing up a post.

Usually it goes where it is supposed to, but every now and again it gets kind of shuffled into the mix.

10. I've noticed that, too. But this time...
...it was just a quick one I dashed off. I'll just put it down to the powerful bad Karma of the Clinton/Obama wars slopping over into the lounge and corrupting our Intertubes.

15. I agree, she's acting very childishly, HOWEVER...
My first thought was that he is lacking in common sense. Who puts $12K in a helium balloon? And I don't care how windy it is, didn't his mother ever teach him about tying the balloon string around your wrist if you don't want it to fly away?

I'd rather have no ring and a husband with a good head on his shoulders. I think they're both better of without each other.

13. Sounds like BS to me.

I'm betting he files an insurance claim for the "missing" ring, and his girl gets a "second" ring exactly like the first.

14. I swear...
I had a piece of schmutz on my screen, and the word "luckless" looked like "fuckless". Then I read the rest of the story and I guess either word works.

16. Why has it become so essential to have a gimmick when you ask someone to marry you?
Billboards, sports stadiums, hot-air balloons, helicopter rides, etc. For cryin' out loud. Just tell her love her and want to spend the rest of your life with her.
