7. . . . to the one you love most
DON'T GIVE A DOSE TO THE ONE YOU LOVE MOST

(Written by Shel Silvertsein)
Shel Silverstein

Don't give a dose to the one you love most.
Give her some marmalade...give her some toast.
You can give her the willies or give her the blues.
But the dose that you give her will get back to youse.

I once had a lady as sweet as a song.
She was my darlin', and she was my dear.
But she had a dose, and she passed it along.
Now she's gone, but the dose is still there.

So, don't give a dose to the one you love most.
Give her some marmalade...give her some toast.
You can give her a partiridge up in a pear tree,
But the dose that you give her might get back to me.

So if you've got an itchin'...if you've got a drip,
Don't sit there wishin' for it to go 'way.
If there's a thing on the tip of your thing or your lip,
Run down to the clinic today, and say...

"I won't give a dose to the one I love most.
I'll give her some marmalade...give her some toast."
Give her the willies or give her the blues,
But the dose that you give her will get back to you.

I think sex noises are way hot. I wouldn't want to cover them up.

13. tinny country midnight music

From my short story:

I push in the cigarette lighter and roll down my window; the wipers screech across the windshield clearing off dead mists and bugs. I reach down after the dull ‘pop’. I feel the primitive, orange, spiraled heat on my face as I light a cigarette; she takes it easily in rhythm with shifting and steering. I light a second cigarette and listen to the tinny country midnight music hiss from a single speaker in the middle of the dash.

It is all so sad. The sad and sensitive seeking refuge in the stone-built world; carelessly tearing one another in another misted country town. She drives and occasionally sighs; her breath is strong with tobacco and cheap pink wine served ice cold. I think of Aaron one last time as my fingers slide sideways past her panties; across swollen, wet lips. She drives across the straight flat Florida night and even the mists lay flat – momentary, wet and cool against the windshield. She tilts her hips and takes my fingers deeper. The fields blur by on both sides; dim headlights cast yellowed highlights over black cows folded to the ground and against one another.

81. I hadn't heard that song for such a long time!
I went over to YouTube. they've got a great unplugged version up. I'd forgotten about that song, but yeah, it's still great. I rarely listen to Led Zep anymore. I heard Paula Cole do an amazing version of Black Dog a few years ago. I saw the last two songs of her performance one night... and that was one of the encores. I didn't like her all that much with that cowboy song, but she was GREAT.

I do have a Christmas song by someone... it's Santa Claus is coming to town but done with the D'yer Mak'er tune. called Sled Zeppelin.

It's good to hear them again. Plant and Paige were a fabu combo plate.

82. I'm jealous of all you people who apparently weren't too drunk to remember
what "their song" was the first time. Hell, I don't even remember my first time. ( although oddly enough I still can remember the brand of cheap tequila I'd bought that afternoon. A vague memory of being at a party, and then waking up with her the following day, and that's as much detail as I've got...it was summer of'72, coulda been listening to anything from the Dead to Elton John. ( her girlfriend across the hall was always playing Madman Across the Water real loud, so a distinct possibility).

90. guys, guys, guys...
okay, maybe it's just me, but -- Chicago? you need some slow rhythm, some bump and grind, some put your tongue... music. neo brass band Sousa?? (I keed, I keed.)

here's a remedial make out mix. do try this at home.

Tom Waits- Alice
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEj-mrwwaxo

Solomon Burke- Flesh and Blood
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6C0gm-OqWso

(I love this song... it's on a cd that's from the last decade-song by Joe Henry)

come sit beside me
that'll do for now
the night has come and left me
just the light that you allow

come speak my name
fill my head with all such foolish dreams
my flesh and blood
is no more real to me
than what it seems

my love for you is burning
like a spark along a fuse
i feel your mark upon me now
as surely as the hand that leaves the bruise...

and then some Stevie Ray "Texas Flood"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDBIbJKjAZQ

actually, I have a mix on cd that I listen to all the time in my car. people don't understand, at red lights, why I'm making out with my fist.

98. all is forgiven
:)

You know, some folks prolly get their jollies from Minnie Ripperton hitting those highhighhigh screaming notes too. to each his own, really. no. really. it's just now, everytime I see you here, I'll start humming, "only the beginning... only the beginning... :)

I hope you tried my remedial make out mix with your sig. other. I'm a gangster of love (unlike the pompetus above.)

86. "Soul Sacrifice" by Santana
Tell me you can't dig this groove
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnamP4-M9ko&feature=related
I was visiting Upper Penninsula Michigan. She was visiting from New Orleans and our two groups collided at a park. It was a magical night: a meteor shower, eclipse of the moon, and Aurora along with Michoacan. The "Woodstock" album this is from had literally come out that weekend. It was like having a concert in your living room. Music was so important to us then. It all combined into a wonderful event, although I never saw her again.

88. It's too embarrassing
let's just say that at that age I was pretty into having a car, girls, prog rock and jazz fusion. Could there be a worse combination? How did I ever get a girlfriend in the first place?

But I like to pretend it was something from Air's "Moon Safari" album for indie cred.
