Why does my soup keep exploding in the microwave?

Seriously. I heat up Healthy Choice New England Clam Chowder in the microwave and it explodes about every 30 seconds or so. Is it some ingredient in the soup, or what?

I was heating a cup of coffee this morning.
The micro looked like something had exploded in it.
I asked Miz t. what was up?
"It happened when I heated your chili yesterday."
???
Did some of the beans explode?
Never had this happen before.

4. I've seen those single-serving size soup and chili containers jump up and down in the microwave

Scared the crap outta me the first time I saw it. Only seen a couple of them explode.

It exploded once so forcefully, 1/3 of the soup shot out! Scared the crap outta me.

5. Uneven heating

some ingredient is sucking up those microwaves more efficiently than the rest and bursting from the center being hotter than the surface. At least that's my theory.

7. Trying lowering the microwave intensity

It will me more time, but it might prevent the explosions

8. Chowder does that

I think it may be the potatoes.
Put saran wrap over the top,if you haven't already, and heat it in ...you guessed it...30 second increments.
I use Progresso, and it does the same damned thing.

9. Most soups and casseroles do that. Just put wax paper over it to save yourself the trouble of

cleaning up after the volcanoes and geysers.

i gave up nuking pototoe based soups. got tired of chisling the spuds off the insides.
