any longer than that and you are just rambling and full of shit. Plus, you lose the interest of the the person you sent the letter to. No cheating with anything lower than 10 point font either.

Just like it is always smart to look in the mirror before going out and removing one accessory, so too is being brief and succinct when making a point or requesting/imparting information.
