Aciphex? Really?!
Don't they focus-group or otherwise test pharmaceutical names?

Ass effects? For a digestive aid?

1. how about Urispas?
and it's pronounced "you're a spaz" And they really like putting Q's,X's and Z's in the drug names :eyes: In all seriousness though, the worst thing is that too many of them have names that are so similar that it increases danger of giving the wrong drug. Not only are the pharmas crooks, they're dumb asses as well.

Am I am dumb ass and crook? Please note, I have no input in naming medicines, but wouldn't that be easier to remember than for example, receptor inhibitor anti interleukin 9?
Watch the broad brush please!:grr:

6. Didn't mean to offend you personally but I can't redact that Urispas is a dumb ass drug name
The only reason we would need to have something easier to remember is brand name recognition. That doesn't help the patient. I don't really want to be mistakenly given 300 mg of Xanax instead of 300 mg of Zantac because the names sound too similar. I'd rather my doctor had to remember alprazolam and ranitidine even if they aren't as cutesy. I'll toss out my broad brush and hyperbole and apologize for offending you personally but I still think *as a whole* the pharmaceutical industry (not necessarily the chemists or the individual employees but the industry) needs to back off on the whole brand recognition thing at the physician level AND at the public advertising level. And that's only the beginning of the sins that I'm not going to bother listing because if you work for the pharmaceutical industry I'm sure you've heard the complaints enumerated before.

8. Some companies are better than others at this stupid naming thing
Most of the names I am familiar with I have no idea where they came from (for example, my company does Synergis a drug for RSV). But yeah the marketing people come up with some really dumb ideas for selling stuff sometimes. I definitely have issues with some of the stuff I see them do...or not do. Believe me, even though I work for a pretty ethical, well run company, there is plenty of stuff that is still eye roll worthy to those of us in the lab.
Sorry, I just get tired sometimes of being painted as the bad guy because of the really well known bad eggs in the industry (which is NOT QUITE as evul as most people think)

2. For the life of me, I don't understand how they get the brand
name from the generic. For example. Lotrel is actually the brand of amlodipine besylate. :wtf: How is that even remotely similar?
At least Amoxil comes from amoxicillin.

4. Just marketing
the same way they come up with names for computers and cars. Expensive consultants get stoned and make up some words.

5. And, you wouldn't believe how much those consultants cost.
I saw a bill on Mr.Midlo's desk for $125,000 for six months work. :wow:

If I were more creative, I would be all over that job like a cheap suit.
